I think these guidelines are very helpful, however looking at my dog’s poop is the determining factor for me. If too loose, add more bone. If white and crumbly, reduce bone. I NEVER adjust organ meat to fix the bone percentage. This is a huge mistake IMO. I recently got some ground rabbit bone which is supposedly 90 percent bone, however based on what I am seeing the bone percentage is not that high so I will adjust accordingly.

People always like to find reasons for why people would dislike something but nobody ever mentions that it could be done accidently. I have caught myself accidentally pressing the dislike button while scrolling down on my phone. There's plenty of times I do it on accident and don't realize. I've done it on other sites as well such as Reddit. It's really not difficult to do and I'm sure plenty of people do it.

So if my dog is supposed to get 6.6 oz of RMB/daily, I spilt it into 2 meals so he gets 3.3 oz RMB each meal. If chicken feet are 60% bone, 40% meat - if 2 chicken feet weight 3 oz total (3 oz x 0.60 = 1.8 oz bone), I would still need 1.5 oz (bone %) of chicken feet still? How do you factor the 40% meat into the muscle meat then? Very helpful videos!
@ntfrmhr
Жыл бұрын
if getting the actual bone percentage is hard, perhaps the bone percentage in the average PMR ratio 80/10/10 might be undercalculated as well and we don’t need to worry so much about commercial premade raw being bone heavy?
@susanbedard1280
3 жыл бұрын
Is it just me or what. When I think of raw and I hear all these % weights its really overwhelming. Just watch the poop. If soft give more bones not every day and a little white don't give any. Too much is extremely dangerous. Blockages, perforated intestines etc. So airing on the side less is more I ( only for me) rather give aittle less and watch the poop. I am sure every wild animal doesn't get everything it needs all the time( even over a week). If your really lucky you have a vet that can help( most of us are not that lucky). Good luck everyone.

I can agree with you, I don't want anyone to become OCD over the very decimal, and balance over time is certainly possible, but I just want to lay out the foundation. Whether we want to believe it or not, there are nutrients that need to be met, and an excess or lack of can cause some issues. There are some days where I count nutrient numbers and some days where I eyeball everything and watch the stool. I think meeting in the middle is a good ground.

Diets don't have to be perfectly balanced. These ratios and percentages are guidelines to follow and something you should get close to. Don't worry if the ratios are off. They will be fine.

@@PawsofPrey I have been feeding my two dogs raw for almost 11 years. I have spent many sleepless nights worrying if I am doing things correctly. I am sure what I feed is not perfect and I have made many mistakes along the way. However, my two 12 year old dogs are very healthy, so even if we are not perfect it seems to work out. There are a lot more resources out there now too than when I started which is very helpful.

One thing I have found is that a chicken neck actually seems to have more like 60 percent bone vs. 75 percent. Just my opinion based on the necks I feed and looking at the poop that comes out of my dogs.

I'm new to raw feeding and something that is really confusing me right now is finding accurate calorie information for bone-in cuts of raw meat. For example, with chicken wings or chicken neck, is the calorie information based on the weight of just the meat or the weight of the entire piece? Because the bone will contribute a lot to the weight, and humans eat only the meat. I also wasn't able to find calorie information for raw chicken feet, particularly with the bones contributing to the weight, as calorie information is by weight. This is the first part of raw feeding that has truly stumped me and left me wondering if I can do this. But I don't have a lot of extra money to pay for people to balance meals for me unfortunately.

And eats somewhere from 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of food a day (obviously raw 😂) For manganese, I feed wheat grass before because I had no other option. But I recently bought hemp seeds, how much should I feed her a day? To provide great amounts of Meganease.

the title makes you think there is a method of delivery of raw meaty bone superior than the means by which we are doing now? but that is not the case at all since the conclusion of video discusses that we could be not accounting for the bone to meat ratio in these raw meaty bones. so i think the title should be something like "Are you Underfeeding your dog their daily bone intake?"
@PawsofPrey
3 жыл бұрын
I do appreciate this feedback, and can agree with you! I guess I sort of just wanted to get people's attention because many think they already know about feeding RMB because that's one of the first things they start feeding when starting out (when it comes to starting out with a simple PMR ratio'd meal) and may feel like they don't need to watch it. I certainly don't want to mislead or upset anyone though.

Hey! I actually need help. I watched a lot of your video and I’m actually just start to feed my 1 year old spitz raw diet. I found out that she had bad effects after eat the chicken so I think she is allergic to chicken that’s what my vet said so too. So now I’m not sure that what meaty bone can I give her instead cuz most of the soft(?) meaty bones are from chicken. I also think that I should minced the meaty bone before I give her to prevent her stomach injury. So yea if she is allergic to chicken what meaty bone should I give her instead. Thanks for help 🙏🏻

Bones from duck, quail, (some) turkey, goose, pheasant, and rabbit are good to feed if you can find them! You can also get grinds that have the muscle meat, bone, and organs blended up in the right portions. Viva raw does this as well as raw feeding Miami. You can use PRIMAL10 for a 10% discount on your order through viva raw too :)
