Totally agree on everything here 😊 I absolutely love Motion. Building your own templates and effects for FCP is so satisfying. Saved me SO much time in projects!

What's up Dylan! I love your videos and no one does such great tutorials and previews to get into motion 5 like you! I have one specific question: When I have a behavior created of something, like for example of an arm lifting up for pointing on someone, can I somehow safe this behavior to reuse it in a different sequence or project? Couldn't figure it out yet where and how to do that! Thanks you and keep going, you rock!

All very valid points! I've been diving into Motion more over the last year and the learning curve isn't as crazy as I had imagined. Thanks for the video! P.S. - love that got Rickrolled in this! LOL

I feel like at this point the key frame options available in Motion should have long existed in FCPX. Thanks Dylan for your awesome videos. I’ve been using FCPX for over 10 years now and I always learn something new from your videos.

One thing I love more than Motion, is your Motion Tools plug in. Let's face it, having over 100 cool Motion effects inside of FCP is more than worth the $24.99. I save tons of time not needing to go into Motion! Thanks Dylan for making one of my most used plug ins available!!!

Hi do you know if you can use a control surface like a Behringer X touch to control things in Apple Motion? I can use the keys on my MIDI controller to animate things like changing the colour on an object when holding down a key. I´d like to fade in and out using the knobs or move objects around in the canvas. I´d have to be setup for each object and what knob/fadder/button controls it. With MIDI cc or something? Or will control surfaces only talk to DAWs?

Another killer video! I love that you are bringing more attention to Apple Motion. For the kind of motion graphics many people do for KZitem, social media and promo videos, I believe Motion is a way better/faster tool than After Effects, especially considering the kind of FCPX plugins you can create within Motion. Not to mention Motion is soooooo much more affordable than AE!
@festusighalo

Motion may be a faster tool, but it's no way better than after effects. After Effects is insane!! Motion is the only suitable alternative to after effects tho.

Dylan, Motion is great... It is also good for creating things like client openers and closer... Things that the client needs for every video... Say, something like a company lower third with a logo & the title of the current video with an animation on either or both... Every news company on KZitem has something like that...

There's some great courses out there! You can check out Ripple Training, or Jenn Jager. They have put together some great courses that cover a lot of Motion! I am also currently working on my own course for Motion. But that likely won't be out for some time, as I am still just in the beginning stages of the process.

Totally agree with this. Question I have which I’d like to see is a workflow video and how you’d recommend bouncing between the two programs. Unlike premiere and after effects it seems way more of a faff to open motion, find the clip you want to use (that’s already in your FCP timeline) get that in motion. Do the effects. Export it. Find it, drop it in to FCP. Then repeat every time you want to do that. Or am I seriously missing a much slicker solution 🙈

You’re right! It’s way more work than it should be. That said, this video covers essentially my workflow for working back and forth between FCP and Motion. Granted, it’s not perfect by any means, but hopefully it’s helpful! The videos pretty old, so hopefully you can overlook the bad production value 😂 How To Dynamic Link In Final Cut Pro kzitem.info/news/bejne/mWqqs4SFo4mqrYY

@@TheFinalCutBro thanks for the video. Yeah not pretty but makes sense. 👌🏻 really baffles me why they don’t have the ‘open in motion’ option on a clip in the timeline, that would be all you need. Just add the button 🤷🏼♂️😅

I could live with them being separate, honestly. But the crapping on us by not allowing us to save audio with visual effects in FCPx is what really steams me. They really water Motion down so that audio is next to impossible to work with. I'm sure that's because they don't want people to use it as a cheaper FCPx video maker, but it still sucks hardcore.

100% Would love this! There's a decent plugin that sends FCP projects to Motion. But it's expensive and should be a built-in feature. Also, it doesn't send them back.
@thislondonmidlife

Having not had any experience in Motion I presumed its relationship with FCP would be similar to the After Effects/ Premiere one. The lack of that function is, for me, a fairly persuasive reason to not learn it, and instead go with plugins within FCP.
