I love using HarnWorld with Mythras, the system has similar goals but it's a *little* less fiddly and I can't help but hack it into everything since it's designed as a toolkit :)

typically the only Harn people I know I have played with, it is so rare to even find someone who has heard of it. it is in my top 3 RPGs right now.

I played Harn for a period of 2 years about 20 years ago and I still think it was the best setting and combat system I've ever seen. I remember playing a practice combat run against my friend to learn the rules and we talked about it for months: while almost crippled from the beating I was getting, I landed a critical counter strike and my spear went through the character's eye. Just super fun and the magic system is closer to LOTR. I can't praise this Fantasy Set enough.

Harn is the setting and systems for the old school gamers who have matured with the games. Love Harn. No question the best system in play.

There is a reason Hârn reaches gamers over 35. That is when they start to really understand life's complications more than black and white.

Thanks for the intro. video. It’s great to watch someone as enthusiastic about Hârn as I am. I’ve played/GM’d Hârn for around thirty years and it’s great to see it finally the publicity it deserves. Hârnmaster is the best fantasy RPG ruleset I’ve ever found (and I’ve played most of them over the years) and the world of Hârn is probably the most detailed and consistent I’ve ever come across. The system is realistic without being overly complicated. Combat is deadly...we still remember the test combat I ran for my gaming group way back in the ‘80s...one character surprised a castle guard, rolled a crit and took the guy’s head clean off...he was lucky, ‘cos if the guard had landed a blow that didn’t kill him outright, he’d probably have died from wound infection (yes, there are proper, consistent rules for that) unless he could’ve got himself to a healer (and rules for that too). Hârn is usually described as a low-magic setting, but magic is there, and it’s powerful, with consistent rules for its use. Similarly religion...there’s a well thought out pantheon of gods and goddesses and comprehensive rules for playing priests, shaken, etc. With the advent of the Hârn ruleset for Foundry VTT, the physical products, and the PDFs available through DriveThruRPG, it is finally easy to take a Hârnmaster game online, which is what I and my original 1980s gaming group are in the process of setting up at the moment. There aren’t many rulesets or fantasy worlds from back then that we still talk about and want to play again thirty-odd years later, but Hârn is definitely one of them. I can’t recommend it enough.

The only thing I don't really like about Hârn are the religions, they kind of suffer the old timey rpg syndrome: they are your very standard "polytheism but not really" gods of very standard concepts (god of violence and war, goddess of seduction, god of bad and more bad, goddess of good etc)
