Hi Craig. A lot of people mistakenly think Apple is at fault over the Spotify issue but as it so turns out it’s actually Spotify where you should be laying blame. Spotify has the API but refuse to implement it and allow their app to run on the HomePod the way that pandora or Amazon music or Deezer have. It’s very popular to blame Apple for this and the folks at Spotify are probably laughing 😆 their heads off. They hate Apple and are in fierce competition with them over their rival music streaming service Apple Music. Spotify is actually punishing their subscribers by refusing to support native Siri interface on the HomePod. This refusal also applies to the mini HomePod as well.

Thank you Graham, I appreciate you sharing this. I think everyone blames Apple because I think Apple makes things difficult for other companies. I may be totally wrong, I just don’t understand why Spotify and other services would want to leave that money on the table. Unless it just isn’t worth it. Thanks for watching.

@@CraigsTechTalk Spotify has been accusing Apple of unfair trade practices for years. This includes using the App Store to stifle competition. Spotify has been trying to encourage the EU to go after Apple, and it appears a part of this is due to Spotify having some past troubles with getting their apps approved. In earlier submissions outlining how Apple was trading unfairly, Spotify cited the inability to get native access to the HomePod. However, Apple released its API for developers several years ago allowing Spotify obtain native integration, and it is now Spotify that have refused to develop this in practice (while saying they will do so at some undisclosed time in the future). Spotify has also made claims that there simply isn’t enough demand from HomePod users which I think many would disagree with. Additionally, Spotify have refused to implement Airplay 2 support into their iOS and iPadOS apps despite stating they would do so quite some time ago. While Spotify may have had some valid criticisms of Apple, time has shown Spotify’s hypocritical behaviour has cost them any moral high ground. At the end of the day, it’s the consumer (and let’s not forget the artists) that lose.

James thank you very much. That is such a great breakdown of things. I can totally see Spotify’s point early on. But as you have explained, once they didn’t take advantage of the HomePod and AirPlay 2, that is on them. You are so right, customers and artist suffer. Spotify keeps going though.

Hi Craig, I pulled the trigger and went with a pair of 2nd generation HomePods (in my living room) to use on my Apple TV 4K. Originally I had two HomePod Minis (in my living room) that have been moved to the bedroom. Is $600 a lot of money to spend on these? Yes, but the compact space, deeper & richer sounds and enhanced bass was a win-win for me. I also love that Dolby Atmos is utilized very well as watching movies/shows was taken to a whole new level. So if you’re critical on sound, I would say go for it. But definitely buy the pair for the full experience.

I love ❤️ these speakers! BUT I am returning them. I used these pair with my Apple TV in the living room. Sound excellent but doesn’t fill my large open living room/ kitchen. Like you said these won’t replace your existing living room theater set up. I am returning these for a Sonos ARC with sub. I would definitely buy these again for an office/bedroom. Just not as my main theater system. Will pick these up when they go on sale

Great video. Homepods use Apple spatial audio technology same as in the airpods pro. For your apple tv use just a pair of homepods in the back side rather the front. This technology sounds better with all the atmos -like effects if you are closer to the speakers

Hello Geoff, the Echos Studio do sound really nice. I am sorry to hear it was a bad setup experience for the HomePods. Did you set up all the devices through the Home App? If you are trying the HomePods, you do have to add everything into HomeKit. HomeKit controls devices locally verses Alexa that uses the cloud to talk to other manufacturers. Thanks for sharing your experience..

Definitely expected as a regular Apple user. I think as someone reviewing the product I have to go back to the price at times to help explain what you are paying for.
