I am glad to see another trombone player who realizes that using your eyebrows is in fact a critical part of effective playing! 😁

I always remember Captain Glen Miller in the army playing his own style of army music and it sounded fantastic. Absolutely adore bands. Salutes the United States Navy Band.

I played the trombone in middle school as a fine arts elective, but as a young kid, I saw it as more of an obligation than a passion. I would’ve much rather played video games after school than practice lol. Now that I’m grown, I’m wanting to take it up again. Good video!

I hope you DO take up trombone again. Although I had started on clarinet while in grade school and took up a couple other instruments along the way, I had always really wanted to play brass. About two months before I turned 69, I bought a used Conn Director trombone off eBay, and have enjoyed playing it ever since, taking lessons along the way.

My 6th grader signed up for a trombone as her choice of instrument for Band class. So here I am trying to learn what exactly is a trombone…

Is trombone more difficult than trumpet then? It looks like you are doing the same thing as trumpet with your mouth but having a much harder time with the notes. Kind of like a theramin or a fretless bass where your hand needs to know exactly where it should be.

I play trombone. You can't say its harder than a trumpet. Its just that a slight change on the slide can change the tone of the note, and change a chord with that. You need to be really precise with the slide. This is also a good thing, since you can "tune" the note so much easier by just changing a bit on the slide. ;)
