Just traded my Les Paul for a 2001 McCarty and it has blown me away with the tone & playability!

I have found I also prefer the McCarty to Les Pauls, although they are a bit different I just adore this model. Congratulations!

I've been seeing them pop up used in great condition for under 2 grand on a regular basis, which is crazy since that's what S2s new sell for and these blow those out of the water to me

Great guitar, I own a 2001 ‘McSoapie’ and a 2010 DGT. I completely see the tele anology. The only downside is the lack of a second volume knob I think. The older versions had pickups and finish that were a bit meh, but this has been fixed since ~ 2019-2020 I think.

It's funny because the older finishes were more likely to cloud and that seems to be addressed, but the issues of colors fading seems to have gotten worse with the newer finishes ( guitars with blue in them lose all of their blue VERY quickly even when only used inside ).

@@AudiomoMusic indeed, my McSoapie turned milky, especially the mahogany, had it refinished in satin nitro and couldn't be happier. The DGT early years are also nitro, no strange discoloration there luckily. I don't know about the newer finishes, but would opt for solid colours myself (gold, antique white etc)

Sounds really good. I been to the PRS Experience and factory 3 times and I have played most models. I wanted a silver sky when they first came out but recently got a Fiore. I would be happy with any PRS but I am drawn to the 594 or the semi special with 3 pickups. The neck makes the most difference and i like the pattern vintage but a nice cu24 would work too..

Nice vid! I have a 1998 McCarty Model in vintage amber. They are quite different from the newer McCarty Models and that's mostly because of the pickups. The original McCarty Models had "McCarty Pickups" (go figure) from introduction until the early 2000's when they began being loaded with PRS's most current popular vintage-style pickups. For me, the originals still sound the best and most authentic to what the McCarty was originally intended to be. The McCarty Model is still my favorite PRS guitar and really the only one that I really, really like. But, I'm a Les Paul guy!

I’ve got an old McCarty 2, and it’s absolutely my number 1, over a bunch of other Gibsons and Fenders I have, the neck profile is so comfortable for me and sounds nice and classic like my LP. Would buy another in a heartbeat

It really is just an astounding instrument. The only guitar I favor over it is my CS Telecaster, but I'm just a lifelong Tele player so I have a bit of bias. I've played and owned many great Gibsons and still have a few, but this is by far the best dual humbucker guitar I've ever owned and I adore it.

I can see several awesome 50s guitar designs referenced in the standard McCarty , I can see a strat with the double cutaway, a tele with the simple two knob switching , early les pauls with the one piece bridge , and late 50s les pauls with the underwound PAFs and wood combination of a maple top and mahogany body. An absolutely wonderful guitar. I own one too, in tobacco sunburst.

yeah it's a really well thought out cocktail of many classics. It's hard to deny the thing is really an exceptional instrument that Paul did a great job with, congrats on yours as well - it must be nice not having to worry about the color fading 😅

I rebought a 2004 CE22 last year and oh my I knew I missed it. But when I finally got one again, the tones out of the dragon 2 pickups with a 5 way rotary switch 🥹...also i was 69th like so today is probably gonna be awesome lol
