Thank you so much for having us!! Love this so much. On the Massif there’s trimpot inside to back off the fuzz to work with high gain amps, for Doom ALWAYS max the volume you want to hit it with so much signal your tone sounds like it dying, only exception is the AOR cause its already so loud. Also for fun stuff stack the Massif with the Mountain for some gnarly tones, if you’re not stacking you’re slacking. You guys are amazing and thank you for everything

I'm no rocket surgeon (I know that's not the phrase) but I always felt high gain pedals, or fuzz, sounds better through a warmer clean amp and not an inherently high gain one. I've gotten great stoner tones through fenders and peavey classics. Good on you for doing a doom vid tho.
@FrostGiantElectronics
2 жыл бұрын
They really do, these pedals are more designed to go into a clean amp while stacking others to sculpt your tone. I designed most of these circuits while running through the low/clean channel of my AOR. So yea, it really is best to use these on a more cleanish platform like Matamp, OR100 and Fenders, but that’s why The Mountain has an OD/blue Channel to be used with high gain amps.

Frost Giant is a fantastic company and Eric Calvert, the man behind it all, is an equally fantastic guy. Any guitarist/bassist interested in heavy music should do themselves a favor and at least try one of their products. Great review but honestly, I feel like this guy did Sleep, and doom in general, a disservice. Sleep, by calling them “Sabbath but half the speed”, and doom, by saying it’s all Sabbath worship. Now I can’t deny that a lot of doom is definitely directly spawned from what Sabbath did. Same with Sleep. But there’s a lot of stuff that’s inspired by a lot of other sounds. Yes, Sabbath walked so doom could run, but to simplify it so much seems a disservice to the music as a whole. No offense to Oz, just an observation. GO BUY FROST GIANT!!!

I think the issue is that they're maybe not paired with a fitting amp. Ideally you wanna throw such pedals at a high headroom clean amp like a Fender Twin, HiWatt or a MatAmp or a clean Orange, otherwise you end up with too much treble and fizz. SUPPORT! Hey Oz, question here: is there a diff between Doom and Death metals? If so, what?
@Intaminator
2 жыл бұрын
Quite a lot actually. Death Metal is in many ways the polar opposite as it is often really fast, whereas doom is distinguished by it's slowness. Tremolo-picking and chromatic riffs are quite common in death metal, less so in doom metal. And then of course there's the vocals, as death metal uses almost exclusively harsh vocals like screams, gutturals, shrieks and so on, meanwhile doom uses clean vocals more often. However, as with most metal there's a lot of crossover genres that combine both characteristics; which is how you end up with death-doom, or funeral doom metal (although that one is basically just extremely slow, dirgey doom metal with death metal vocals).
