I have never grown marigolds until this year, all i did was sprinkle seeds and left them. They're beautiful now, so easy to grow ❤

Thank you for the video! Question about saving the seeds, do different varieties cross pollinate? I'm growing some of the white ones as well but they are interplanted near some of my orange and yellow varieties

It was my pleasure! Different varieties will cross with each other, however this will only effect the seeds that you save for next generation plants. If you want to save true to type seed, you can simply put a bag or something over the flower before it opens to make sure wind or other pollinators disturb the process as marigolds are self pollinating. Great question and thanks for watching!

This is an example of a video that goes way overboard. In my early days this video would have detered me from planting Marigolds. You make it seem way harder and more complicated then it is. Transplanting is not neccessary and more work then direct sowing. I've never had an issue direct sowing Marigolds and I dont know anyone who has- it also doesnt matter if they start to flower before you transplant. Idk why you are saying things that are just your personal opinions as facts. Its like you want this to seem difficult when in reality this is an incredibly easy flower to grow. I had a neighbor give me 1 single strawberry marigold seed and direct sowed on top of wet dirt. Boom marigold plant, a season goes buy, some flower heads drop and now I have 11 plants in that area. Without even trying. Your OCD way of gardening was hard to watch. Better luck next time.

I would love to see your video on how to grow marigolds. I know in my area we can't plant very early in the ground so the information in this video is helpful to know. Hope you have a good day 🤍

Hi there! Appreciate all your input but if you watched the video, I clearly stated that marigolds are very easy to grow and you don’t HAVE to start in pots as direct sowing is possible, but it is not generally recommended. Watch other KZitemrs or read the seed packets or any other info out there. My job here is to give all the info so everyone is able to grow them (not just the little details of putting a seed in the ground and letting it do it’s thing). Doesn’t mean you have to use every step. We are all learning and growing, and I am taking the separate step of spending my time trying to help others learn how to garden, not going through and seeing which KZitem videos are good and which aren’t. I am sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy this video and hope there are others out there that might do the job better. Thanks - Gabe J.

I can’t take this guy seriously. I always direct sow. At the end of the season, I let the flowers drop seed and the next year and the next and the next, marigolds come back. This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

I haven't had that experience. I'm also in a very cold climate so perhaps that's why. I definitely need to sow indoors as he suggests. Marigolds like to be nearly surface sown to germinate and if I were to do that, any that did germinate probably would not end up growing where I wanted them.
