Good luck to all the ladies- It can be a life changing path. I was a hs graduate with a 2.3 GPA, and after doing my 4 years, I left the Navy and immediately enrolled in college. I am finishing my first semester with 16 credits with a 4.0 GPA and my life is being LIVED.

Ponyboi 4 depends on your chosen rate! Some are 5 year contracts, but most are 4. Try to stay within four years, it keeps you sane and gives you a good idea for if you want to stay, or want to go civilian and use your gi Bill!!!

@LoveKayWad

cayla v well it depends! So if you want to start school during the service, normally you have to finish a few qualifications that vary from rate to rate! You’d use TA, or tuition assistance. But if you finish at least 36 months of honorable service, you can use your GI bill. You ideally want to use your GI bill after so you get the bah payments!

Great choice of rate!! I knew of many non designated seaman who were striking for OS, everyone of them that was accepted to strike for OS made E5 within their first four year enlistment and E6 in the next, those that stayed in the Navy past their 10 year mark ALL made E7, with a great number going LDO & OCS. The kicker is that they were all given re-enlistment bonuses for OS - AND when OS’s are in port they have LOTS & LOTS of free time, so additional Navy schools and outside college education was readily available, as well as huge amounts of free time to get gym time in. Being an OS is like winning the Navy lottery. PS: this is coming from a sailor who’s career spanned three decades.

Right now I'm definitely considering joining the navy to pay for my masters degree. I graduated with my bachelors so i plan to go the officer route. My only concern is that the years that I'll put into the navy will take me off my goals and delay the future I want for myself. It's still a backup option for me but even if I go I don't plan on staying in the military for the long haul (5 years at most). Another concern is that there won't be an officer route that prepares me for the field that I want to pursue which is either architecture or urban planning. I don't want to be placed in a role that isn't tied to my current career goals and I don't want to be in a position to compromise that. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind being in a position to make and save money, travel the world, make friends, learn a trade, and afford my masters when I get out. Thoughts?

Look into Civil Engineer Corps if you want to do officer route. If enlisting, look into Seabees. If you're doing officer, start talking to an OFFICER RECRUITER, they're only job is to help you put together your officer packet in order to attain the contract you want in order to attend OCS and commission. You have no obligation to the Navy until you actually commission. The sooner you start building your packet the better.

Joselyne Meza I have 3 kids & im going. Think about the life you want for your son! Where will your life be in 10 years if you don’t enlist? The benefits are crazy and dope as hell for you and your child, you can literally get rich joining if you know how to manage your money. I say GO FOR IT! I’m in the Army.

If you have a good family member to watch your son, like your mom or sister, go for it. After you enlist, you will get housing and you can move in your son's caretaker with you. 110 percent go for it. You will have a much brighter future if you do for both you and your son. Make sure you pic a good rate( job) like IT and preferably a job that requires a security clearance like IT or CT. If you like the Navy you can stay longer or get out and use your GI bill after for free college and 36 months of basic allowance for housing while you are attending college.

Zenez, talk about if they wanna go to college and re-enlist, join the reserves to pick up rank easier and to go back in the fleet with higher rank. Many do that esp when active duty rates are locked up.

Join the Navy if you’re a female. Guaranteed you won’t have to pull your own weight and work nearly as hard as your male counterparts. Evals with Excellent Performance EPs will be given to you although you don’t deserve it. You’ll make rank fast and won’t be required to know your rate. You can half ass do the PRT overweight and still pass. U can be insubordinate all You want and jump the Chain of Command because the Chiefs and Commander are your personal guy pals. She s smiling because life is easy for a female, especially one as attractive as her. I’m glad in my community 🐸 I didn’t have to deal with a lot of the bullshit the Fleet Navy dealt out but I was close enough to it in my reserve years to see it up close and it made me sick. Sending black guys to Mast for being late for work because he couldn’t find a sitter? Oh yeah racism is prevalent in the Navy. What’s Even more confusing is when they decided to let these swabbies wear greens which was initially designed for Specwar and ExpWarfare types. How this applies to a ship I have no clue. Anyways, I’m sure she’ll make Chief in no time since the senior leadership these days are so easily manipulated by a cute face. All that is needed is a “No, Chief or Yes, Chief” and she’ll go far. Oh and if you’re an Alpha male stay away from the Navy unless Special Programs is what u want. The Navy is overrun by Beta males who get a little so called power

Unless it's some level of classified you are allowed to say where you're deploying too, it's only an OPSEC violation if you say when. You're wrong when you say everything in life is your fault. Lots of people get abused or have their careers messed with for no fault of their own. You can't say that's their fault. Everything else you said is right though. It's better to join when you're young and healthy and still figuring out how to adult. I mentioned on another video I probably would have joined the Navy if I could do it all again. Living on ship doing technical works looks better than being in the field breaking your back and knees as long as you're okay with boredom.

Thank you for your comment ! But I do want to respond to the middle section. I am not wrong for my personal opinion. Also, as people with the ability to think and create we can ALWAYS change the outcome of things we do not like in our lives. If you can think it you can do it and achieve it. It takes motivation, drive and discipline to change the outcome of YOUR life. That’s what I meant by everything in life is your fault. I hope this cleared up my opinionated statement (:

Zenez, thank you for making this video- your about to re-enlist but if you think about it you are so far ahead of your age group- the mindless duties are the hard ones b/c they make you want to quit. Discipline is what you learn in doing the mindless activities. you give good advice as an older person looking back, I have 2 degrees and yes it paid off but I wish I had listened nothing can beat the travel and not being around closed minded people! dam you are so blessed- you say the ship sucks, but it is keeping you in a mode of discipline. Man all I see is a young lady that has found her talent- so happy for you. Thank you for posting! Please continue to post about the Navy. Also how do Officers treat you?
