Excel is not meant for transaction recording, it is a spreadsheet meant for data analysis and performing mathematical operation on data. So allowing concurrent use of a spreadsheet has many drawbacks.

100%. It’s a technical debt issue. Companies come up with a “quick solution” using Excel that ends up costing them a ton in the long run.

what if someone used google sheets for small to medium sized businesses?? if its not something you'd recommend, then what should a small to medium sized enterprise do?

Thanks for the question! The proper solution is to house data in a database, not spreadsheets. Spreadsheets should be used for analyzing data, never for data storage/retrieval. Excel has the ability to connect to a database and pull in the data for analysis-that’s the proper workflow.
