There is a visceral satisfaction when you finally manage a grab on a speedy character or when you endure an opponents offence and manage to hit them with your big move that is very addicting.

Honestly robot is just absurd sometimes, like, i literally just landed that air garb of his and both me and my opponent knew the game was over, 60-80% of his lifebar in one combo and lots of meter for me to super and KP, he had no chance.

Not gonna lie i've been playing grappler characters (gief, pot) since i was a little kid in fg and every win still to this day feels so satisfying and the grappler community is like unironicly so wholesome it just makes me very happy

My friend mains Potemkin, and the scariest thing he does every time is Hammerfall > PRC cancel > Kara buster, it's always gets me off guard. I respect grapplers, although they delete my HP from existence, they work a lot on it, and it's not that easy as it seems

I still remember the special edition for BB Calamity Trigger that came with a DVD containing guides made by experienced players. While every other character got a fairly dry and straightforward breakdown, Tager got a full presentation in a horrible fake Russian accent that taught you how to do GLORIOUS SOCIALIST DAMAGE. Grappler mains are just built different.

I have only in the last couple years got into fighting games. And for me no matter what game or genre now whenever anything happens. Whatever is closer to pot, zangeif, or tager in terms of gameplay is what I root for I'm grapplerotted to the core

Im not a grappler main, but i think there is a massive difference between different ones. The main fighting games i have experience with are guilty gear strive and street fighter 6. Zangief to me feels way more fair to fight against than potemkin even though gief is generally considered to be higher on the tier list. Potemkin is just incapable of playing footsies. He moves and plays neutral by using special moves, not manually moving. His kit is basically all neutral skips: slide head, hammer fall, mega fist, white wild assault. It feels very 1-dimensionsal. When pot charges hammer fall from full screen with meter and just guesses right it just feels lame. Gief actually feels way more interactive to fight against. He has no real neutral skips; he has to use smart spacing to get in. I think some amount of neutral skips are a healthy part of the game, but characters like potemkin, nagoriyuki, and slayer who exclusively play neutral with neutral skips are just toxic design

Honestly I play grappler for the strikes and anti airs. I want big buttons with prolonged active frames and good answers to jumpins. I really hate SF6 Gief for having neither and love Pot for having both.

Why play a grappler: Tons of hp that let you make tons of mistakes, and a win-con that deals tons of damage with tons of intimidation factor with none of the execution. Theres a reason why "churning the butter" and "eating glue" are used in parallel with this FG archetype 😂

No one likes them, they're fake skill easy to play and their players are always complaining and talking about how they're so weak and how they're chads for playing them, they have an extremely simple gameplan and grappler players would struggle harshly if they had to play any other archetype
