I've done that a couple of times but really it's just quite funny (unless the wind's too strong and it doesn't come down...)

Haha, why would you not attach the sail to the boom in the first place. However, easy fix: get the jib in, pull parallel to the platform, pull mast to the side (almost capsize) and youll be good, no?

Often loose footed mainsails are just attached at the outhaul and this can easily shake loose. I once saw this happen with the boom attached to the foot of the sail. No mainsheet was attached. That was a bit of a headache. I wish I could tell you the sailors concerned capsized the boat over the pontoon and easily recovered the main. Unfortunately another mistake was made. An inverted boat with no mainsail up stuck under a pontoon takes a long time to recover 😂.
