This might sound stupid but you just taught me something that I can't believe hasn't ever crossed my mind. Although I know very well many variations during the opening...and my endgames I am very good at which I think comes from enjoying and being very good at puzzles buuuut I usually have bad middle game according to my reviews but you just nailed exactly why! I'm at the shooting range without a target. I've never thought about the fact that there are specific goals with each opening and I think that because the endgame is much more open that I can utilize my puzzle minded proficiency to overcome the disadvantages I allowed in the mid game. I have a feeling that I will owe you my many thanks soon in my struggle to climb beyond 1200 ELO

I went from literally 100 to 1200 Elo by playing the Vienna only for white, if my opponent plays 1. e4, of course. It's great. I absolutely love it. This opening is solid and flexible, and after a pawn break with f4 and castling my rook has an open file.

I would really like to play 1.e4 and then enter the Vienna or the Bishop's opening, if only Black would always reply with 1. ... e5 😅 but there is so much other stuff you have to master as an e4 Player, so I stick to d4 and Play the London, Colle, Zuckertort or even Stonewall.
@FmFpF1992
Жыл бұрын
That was my main reservation against playing e4 as well, but once you figure out a line against black's main openings it's not that bad. People mainly play e5, c6, or c5. I personally find e4 more fun than d4. My lines now are e5 (vienna), caro (advanced Tal Variation), sicilian (alapin), french (basically a b3 gambit the e4 pawn for activity), other minor responses by black are principled 2 pawns in center if I can. 1523 rapid 1441 blitz.

I'm NOT a tuber but a marketer. Take it onboard and give it a shot, I think you'll benefit dude. Take care.

From a marketing standpoint that's probably true but man it's pretty disappointing as when you watch a 20-30 minute opening video and they show you a couple lines then play a game and the opponent plays something completely different *cough gotham*. With this format you get a handful of games and have a better understanding of how to go about a variety of positions. IMO feels like a more complete video/tutorial.
