excellent job, man. I like the fascia siding, although some say to keep an end open for ventilation. Very nice video.

I’m going to lay some decking this spring so I’ve checked a few videos out, I’m sure this decking has some issues by now , would have been better with some noggings . The weight will stop this from moving but I’m sure all the sarcasm in the comments are by absolute experts who never do anything wrong , maybe they should add some links to their far superior builds.

@andyadogs

OK here's the thing the grooved side is for ventilation and the boards should hang off the end so rain water runs off and not into the framework helped by a slight angle but how many extra years does it really buy you? I say if it's your deck and your money build it the way that makes you happy, if your mates don't want to sit on it with you then more beers for me, I thank you!

Alright if you’re decking a snooker table. The slab see-sawed as the bearer came down on it. No noggins between the joists. And if you want forearms like Popeye, bang home 150mm nails and avoid the advanced technology of a screw.

Right Here are the mistakes you made You should treat the wood with a bitumen paint It will last even longer Never use nails screw every time Never try to level out with paving slabs Use wet concrete as supports and it will run into any gaps making sure it Never moves and the worst thing is Never use spacers Always lay the boards green As in make sure they are wet and have expanded to their maximum otherwise you will get a too bigger gap once they shrink Never lay dry boards

Strong winds..... It's the UK.. wind isn't going to move that. My trampoline isn't bolted down or have a US style 900ft concrete footing. My garden chairs aren't bolted down and they stay put. My garden table isn't bolted down that stays put. My kids toys in the garden aren't bolted down. My plant pots aren't bolted down. What is it with this place and people banging on about massive footings and beams, it's nuts.

To allow wood expansion. If the wood gets really wet it expanse, so if you don't leave a gap between the boards to allow they space to expanse to they will push each other and possibly ruin your deck. The gap is also used for drainage.

Another "expert" putting the decking boards on up-side-down. The deep "reeding" goes underneath to allow air into the joint, keeping it dry, and also to stop the board from warping. The smooth, or small reeded side is for walking on. This allows more surface area for your shoes to contact so better grip.

It doesnt matter, you can lay it groove side up or down. The channels is for effect and has no actual benefit in regards to keeping it dry or whatever
@SuperBobbster

Erm, no. The grooves are for water runoff. Putting them on groove side down wouldn't make any difference to them staying dry. That's not to say you can't do that if you so choose, but the grooves have a purpose.

Besides all of the obvious safety and structural errors, wouldn't even the most inexperienced novice realize that all of those grooves facing upward would hold water, which would dramatically shorten the life of the deck? What about winter, when it's caked with ice and snow? Salt and deicing compounds would simply dissolve the decking, within just a couple of years.
