Beautiful, the filming is truly superb and you seem to capture the true mystical beauty of Ireland. We love old churches and grave yards and this episode we truly enjoyed and have watched it now 3 times. Thank you. XX

I'm feeling me age. We did part of the Wicklow Way/Sli Cualann Nua when they hadn't yet finished it - that was in 1982. We started from Glendalough and stayed at Knockree Hostel, before going down to Bray and twiddling our toes in the sea. We got a bus back to the campsite where we had left the car - a 2CV. The campsite owner insisted that we left it parked across from his office so that he could keep an eye on it, for which we were most grateful. Car theft was already a thing at that time. From the pictures that I can see today, they've done a lot to protect the path itself and the hostel at Knockree has had some work done on it. When we were on the Way, much of it hadn't been signposted and wasn't in place as such and in fact even the part we were on didn't have many signs either. But we did have the very nice official bilingual map - I still have it today and the cover is pale yellow. After that, we drove over the Sally Gap going west, so we have never did set foot in Dublin. We did a lot of walking in the West - in Donegal, Conemara, Mayo and Kerry srl. At that time the walk guides usually just said - 'go up that mountain there and then go up the other one on the left and keep going'. Luckily on one of the Twelve Bens, a shepherd did manage to prevent us from walking over a cliff. Go raibh maith agat a chara.

Thank you so much for sharing that...and well done, on both the video and completing the trail. I thought about doing this with my girlfriend for quite some time, but am quite anxious about doing it, partly because I haven't really done any proper multi-day hikes, so I very much appreciate being able to watch your journey 🙏

Thank you for watching! To make it easier, I would do the trail in the summer when the weather is supposedly a bit better - we did it in September and the rain and wind were pretty bad at times. Also not that many campsite / accommodation options on the trail so need to plan well. Not sure where you're based but I would say the Cumbria Way or the West Highland Way are a bit easier for first-timers!

We are planning to do the wicklow way end of may. Is it to challeging to start at clonegal and to do the tour in 5 days? because i see you started at Tinahely
@ElielHerleviPhotography
4 ай бұрын
I think it *can* be done in 5 days, as long as you're used to longer days and distances. Just keep in mind that many of the campsites/bnbs are not directly next to the trail so that'll add to the distance even more if you're planning to use them. The reason we didn't start at Clonegal was that we couldn't find suitable transport options from Dublin - in fact we actually had to take a taxi from Arklow to Tinahely as there were no buses to get us closer in time. Let me know if you have other questions!

@@ElielHerleviPhotography thanks for your response! transport from dublin airport to clonegal is challenging. One question, is there an alternative near the knockree hostel? As it is permanently closed. On day 4 we are planning to hike from the busher gap hut to knockree. Is wild camping the only option/alternative here? thanks!

Unless you want to walk all the way to Powerscourt, then I think wild camping probably is the only option... Glensoulan Valley is a nice spot for that though! Next to the bridge at 14:21
