In my opinion, mid zone and wide zone can have the same technique for OL and RB, with the only difference being the aiming point for both But outside and wide zone are really quite different

If you’re looking for similar combos as wide zone on mid zone, I would say that the PST just needs to block out, and the rest of the OL uses inside zone second level targeting mechanics in combination with the wide zone techniques.

Hey Coach! Fellow Oline coach and if learned a lot from your videos. Not sure if it’s been mentioned before but the volume on you videos is seemingly low. Have to crank the volume to get to a normal level. Really appreciate your videos and how you get right to it using universal terminology. Never really considered the two concepts to be different. Has pretty much been a +1 Reach for the play call side. We attack the outside shoulder until you can’t and then run to the sideline. Can’t 100% speak for the RB read. As far as the second level most times the LB / DB over runs the second level blocker and leaves a cutback lane for the RB.

Yeah, I’m still working on the audio. I turned it up a little bit for this video, but I guess not quite enough! Thanks for sharing your coaching points. I think attacking the outside shoulder is a key starting point for any of these “perimeter” zone plays. That second level overflow is a key thing to look for in my offense because then turning to Inside Zone with the same presentation has an even bigger cutback lane.

@@Coach_DDavidson exactly. I feel like so much of any outside run in using the defenders momentum to your advantage when possible.

That’s why of those 3, Outside Zone is my least favorite because of you can’t get the edge, the ballcarrier basically just has to run out of bounds.

I've turned into a big midzone guy but my aiming point is more akin to wide zone. Now my wide zone aiming point is like an outside zone aiming point. Its all about creating stress and stretch and puncture.

I’m at that first spot. Mid Zone blocking (Coach McNally’s) with Wide Zone aiming points and tags.

@Coach_DDavidson yeah I've been looking at it much more around surfaces and concepts for which play will do what. Zap and zorro those are your 8/9 hole wide zone runs while wanda and weak are your 6/7 mid zone runs. Longer surfaces let's play wider to try and hit the edge via numbers
