The clapping is traditional. The story is that when Austrian army officers first heard this, written after a military victory, they spontaneously clapped along to this rousing part of the march, and people have been doing it ever since. It's a nice tradition, but it shouldn't drown out the voices or piano.

They are being told/instructed by the boys themselves to clap. The clapping in this particular song is a tradition, this song never goes without clapping. :)

I have always loved the way the VBC has dual excellence in singing and playing musical instruments. Especially the part where the boy is playing a drum in this video and the choir is singing to the Radetzky March. All I got to say is well done. The Radetzky March is one of my favorite singing songs by the VBC.

The translation special for you ------------------------------------------------------- Well then you haven't heard much of the chorus like this all you favorite song is. One thing is sure, the Radetzky Marsch correctly and it is also one of the most difficult songs by the choir to learn it (good). The Vienna Boys Choir/ Wiener Sängerknaben is also of the few choirs in the world that it is almost perfect sings. It differed each year than how it sounds, what the choir sings, there are 4 as you will know, sometimes singing 4 choirs it together (e.g. with the new year concert then I find it far from the best to hear). I do not want to afkatten your made note but it struck me at once on the word "bookmark"/maybe to that I what higher requirements set on this choir. That is why I responded to your comment, greetings from Netherlands, the Hague. Tip! It is convenient to have a translator to install in your browser e.g. (Bing / Grome it’s free en good) 99% of PC users has it installed by default translate this cost me more than 2 hours Also you wrote the word Radetzky March wrong some also with translate the month March translated CH instead of SCH It's Radetzky Marsch

Marsch is the German spelling of march. Much of English has been derived and altered from German. One good example is Fisch (Ger); fish (Eng). I rest my case.

Yes, that shouldn't happen. If you watch the lead singer he is giving the audience clues as to how loudly or softly they should be clapping. (After 200 years, you can't stop them.) By and large they are doing what he suggests, I think the main problem is the poor recording.

Walter Esterl It's Radetzky Marsch not March Entirely correct Walter I personally find it a sloppy error from people who speak and write standard English. I myself am a Dutchman and me is it for years on I'll often against this error Even on Lp's Cd's comes this stupid issue is not often for very sloppy so. Hopefully understand the people of all these comments on this page that make a mistake is not a disaster, but this kind of error put me thinking, it is crazy for be just that this is a world problem, and nothing done in schools is incomprehensible to me. But for your thoughtfulness, a serious compliment Greetings from the Netherlands The Hage / Anton
