There’s so many little details that even the biggest hip hop fans miss in Story of Addidon. Like using the Story of OJ beat after the “tap dance for crackers and sing mammy” in Infrared. The beat itself is a bar. If you look at the artwork for this song, it's Drake, a Black man, in Blackface. Drake did it for a photoshoot for a clothing line. The beat for this song is Jay-Z's "The Story of OJ" (another play on the title of this song "The Story of Adidon, which is a spin on Adonis, the name of Drake's son and the alleged way he was gonna unvail said child to the world with a collaboration with Adidas, hence Adi-don'is). Jay-Z references OJ saying that he himself wasn't a Black man but only identified as OJ like his skin didn't matter. Push tied that into the song with lines like ".. not Black enough,...fro wouldn't nap enough" etc.

The Story of Adidon is legendary because it's a laser focused attack at Drake from so many angles at once, kinda like a death from a thousand cuts situation, only that any one of these laser attacks is lethal on its own. You can tell even years after that Drake is still salty over this. One of the things I appreciate most about it is that almost every aspect of the song serves to disrespect Drake and everything connects thematically in a brilliant manner, the cover art, Drake in blackface (which is 100% real) which is basically a visual parallel to how he's viewed in the rap game, someone who isn't respected and tried to be like someone he's not and the instrumental that strengthens that same idea etc

The bars in Duppy Freestyle talking about Push’s producers were referring to Kanye. Drake was saying that Kanye doesn’t make his beats himself and works with several other engineers and artists while putting his name on it. You’ve seen how many producers get credits on Kanye’s albums but the only person who gets acclaim is him. I think it’s valid to bring up that Drake wasn’t crediting Quentin for his writing credits though. Drake goes on to say that he’s done things for him that he never thought he’d have to do-including writing the hook for Yikes on the album ye. Drake said in an interview that he came to Wyoming to work with Kanye and wrote that hook. Then Kanye gave him a beat. Before ye came out, Kanye released a song called “Lift Yourself” with the beat that he gave Drake. He made it a meme. The verse was just “poopty scoop” and variations of that. That’s why Kanye’s verse started like that on What Would Meek Do? on DAYTONA. Just giving you some more backstory so you can see an even bigger picture. You also missed some lines about OVO 40 at the end of Story of Adidon. I think you should look into them. Anyway, great video!

Drakes diss was made with a lot of references to fashion and other professionals which are hard to understand if you’re not aware of all that. Meanwhile Pusha was pretty straightforward and the disses are easier to digest.

It seems like a lot of these reaction channels don't wanna use annotations and find out stuff by themselves so the conversation could keep going in the comment section. They be like " yeah fill us in on what really happened in the comment section" when the answers are in front of them lmao.

I hope you have a conversation about this beef because there’s definitely some interesting discussions on Both sides of it 1. Pusha’s beef with Drake isn’t about the alleged ghostwriting at all. It stems from Pusha’s beef with Lil Wayne, Drake’s mentor And 2. Drake’s use of reference tracks, he wasn’t the first nor the last rapper to use them (I know because I heard original reference track leaks over the years involving different artists) that leads the conversation to this “the same knock you hold against Drake using them, would you keep that same rule against an artist you enjoy? Or is it different?” That’s a Pandora’s box a lot of fans are scared to open simply because it’s easy to pin it on Drake because Hiphop purists deem him “Non Hiphop”

You are misunderstanding drakes line about producers and writers. When drake says who is doing his beats, it’s directed towards kanye. Kanye made the beats on infrared and often uses multiple writers. So drake is saying, why don’t you have a problem with kanye using writers, but with me doing it… The difference is I believe drakes had actual ghost writers leaked, while Kanye’s always transparently credited all the writers, with some saying he is extremely liberal to who he gives writing credit to.
