Thanks for this. I started to test mine earlier today and i wasn't noticing much difference at all. wherever I had the router or antennas facing either.

Thanks for presenting these findings. On a 2-antenna router I found the same thing. I had more variation from fluctuation over time with any single position than from different positionings. I had read so many people talking about theories of broadside perpendicular radiation but without doing any real world testing. There is one expert who among other things is a ham operater and teaches a pratical anntenna application class for tactical operators like miltary radio operators who may have to improvise in the field. This is not the same application but his knowledge is broad. He agreed positioning didn't matter so much. He picks an angle and points both antennas at the same angle. He said the important thing is how far they are apart and at these frequencies the disntance set by the router chasis is enough (4.9 inches is they wavelength for 2.4GHz and half that for 5GHz). If neither are blocked the wifi router will have more throughput as some information will be transmitted and received by one and other information will be sent and received by they other. But if one is blocked the wifi router will use the other for all of the data.

the signal doesn't come out of the top of the antenna. The antenna throws the signal 90 degrees over the axle length. Around. So pointing them up they shoot horizontal

so... I love the idea that you took the time to try different antenna positions. I'm having the same issues. My xr500 and extenders {ex7000} with Orbi rgk50 assistance, is making my 115' long home dead zone proof. Still a work in progress though, my problem is finding the EM, water, obstacles, to place my router/wifi to get the best placement, which in turn results in best placement and signal strengths. The home is frame, so no big deal. Just my thought.

Great video man, and great testing method. Im glad someone actually took the time to look into antenna positions. I've always wondered about this subject myself but I got rid of my old router for a Linksys EA6400 which has zero antennas but at leat I get reception on my back patio even at 5Ghz so I cant complain. Thanks for the video man, good job.

His conclusion is *WRONG.* One Horizontal, One Vertical is proper setup. It doesn't matter to *him* Personally because of his Wireless routers signal strength is obviously good for HIS Personal needs. Not the case for everyone. My Wi-Fi router for example is barely good enough for the first floor of my home, and to get to the far rooms with a good signal strength, I have to be on the proper channel and have my antennas pointed just right. Moving it even an inch will ruin the chances of a stable signal in the far corners of the house (master bedroom). God forbid we get new neighbors again because the last ones started using *MY* WiFi channel!

An important question here is were you connected to the 2.4 GHz network or the 5 GHz network of your router in these tests?

Best advice is position the router as close to center of the area you're using to get fairly equal coverage across your home. Other than that, it doesn't matter.

Interesting that you found a difference. I had another commenter state that it obviously would not make a difference because it's omnidirectional. I'm with you, I thought that it would make a bigger difference than it did for me. The difference may lie within brands and different antennas. Thanks for the comments, thanks for watching. Of note, I've now went into a mesh network of which do not have antennas.
