Presentation from Games for Change Asia-Pacific Festival 2021.
Presented by Cathy Robinson, Harry Kaloyirou, Justin Perry and Melissa Sinclair.
In remote western Cape York in Queensland, the APN Rangers implement land and sea management on their traditional homelands south of the Archer River. Come rain, mud or scorching heat, you will find the APN Rangers on their side-by-sides monitoring Olive Ridley turtle nests and managing predators. Baits, trapping, screen protecting and scaring pigs are all part in conserving the next generation of turtles on these homelands. Through this game Wik and Kugu children learn about turtle conservation actions and the different predation management methods, whilst also building digital literacy in preparation for the next generation conservation tool kit. Like conservation, a collaborative approach has been taken by the partners: APN Cape York North Australian Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance (NAILSMA), Commonwealth Science Industry and Research Organisation, Two Moos, and Aurukun State School with funding from the Nest to Ocean Programme, Department of Environment and Science Queensland.
