I've always thought it was weird that the synth didn't go up to the high octave in this performance. Kinda detracts from the song for me

Yep. Makes no sense - same guy (Jay Bennett) playing the part too. The only thing I can think of is maybe hes playing a 73 key instead of an 88 key synth?

Another great Wilco song, but imo, not the best arrangement of it...and the tempo and attack seem a little too relaxed compared to the more driving studio version.
