I strongly believe that Lynch decided that after making some of the most weird and disturbing work ever, Eraserhead & Blue Velvet, that he wanted to do something that was a little more ridiculous and a little less disturbing. Although, there’s some scenes in this film which are disturbing, they aren’t ‘the baby, in Eraserhead or Dennis Hopper’s Frank in Blue Velvet disturbing.

I think he found that style in Blue Velvet? What you think? That duality in ''humor''. I wonder how did he came up with that concept. It is hard to catch something like that from paintings and drawings.. He must have discovered it somewhere...

I have seen this movie 30 years back, right after it got released and things were never the same to me ever since. Also, as a big fan of Nick Cave I have to say that no without reason Nicolas Cage and Nick Cave are 'just one single letter away from each other', to say so. Interesting coincidence. Cave is given to the same ominous, dark unsettling, ridiculous, violent and kinky imagery, let alone him being influenced by Elvis. As strange as it sounds.

Now I'm rewatching this scene after many years, having enjoyed it as a teenager, but now 'understanding' Lynch a little more,... I now notice how the screams of adoration are pre-recorded and dubbed on to sound like the screams of birds of prey circling over carrion,... I would presume this is to highlight the ominous and predatory circling of Lula's mother(the Wicked Witch) over the relationahip... oh how age can change your perspectives...
