Everyone calm down. The coyote we lovingly called Wiley has moved on. She lived in an abandoned cemetary that was recently bought and renovated, so she has moved on to greener pastures. It cracks me up reading all the self-proclaimed experts on coyotes telling everyone what to do and how to do it. Truth is, she never lost the ability or desire to hunt, she'd always stop playing to go hunt when she saw a squirrel or rabbit.

Coyotes are the most misunderstood animal. They're basically dogs. However they will get creative if you allow them to go near an ACME store. Do not and I repeat do not walk or drive through anything that may appear to be a tunnel. On a positive note, they usually end up falling for their own traps so no need to worry. I've seen so many times where they set up some kind of apparatus that uses an anvil or piano to fall on the trapped and every time the coyote gets caught in their own traps.

Just because I live in the city doesn't mean i don't know how to act around wild animals God forbid if I posted the video of my old roommate playing chicken with a wild buffalo! I grew up in a cornfield (literally) so I do have the field sense to not feed her directly. My dog, a border collie mix, was smart enough, as me, to give her plenty of open space when we'd play with her so she never felt trapped or in danger. She was an exceptional animal, and we still hope to run into her again.

I live next to a very large national park. They have plenty of space to roam and hunt there. The problem is that people draw them out of those safe areas and into dangerous urban areas by feeding them hand outs. If you believe so strongly that coyotes should have the land returned to them, by all means, AFTER YOU.

Hand feeding wild coyotes teaches them to lose all fear of humans and dogs so that they will hang around your neigbourhood and take your pets and even possibly a small child. To keep coyotes away: 1. Do not feed them, they are wild animals and NOT pets. 2. Keep your pets inside as much as you can. 3. Dispose rubbish properly in bins so that a coyote can't access. 4. Scare off coyotes. Some handy things people should know to keep coyotes away so they don't like your neighbourhood.

Dogs were domesticated over thousands of years and generations of selective breeding. Our pets today are hundreds of generations away from the wild animals they once were. Coyotes are scavengers and opportunists for survival. If they see potential for food, they will attack no matter how much of a relationship you think you've built with it. People who try to domesticate wild animals end up hurting the very species they love. "DOG WHISPERER Cesar Millan on WOLF-DOG Hybrids (Oct. 2010)"

I am not talking about aggression. I'm talking about the coyote's natural instinct to capture and eat prey. A coyote attacking a baby is not doing so out of aggression, it's doing so to get a potential meal. Coyotes in my neighborhood have killed and eaten several pets. Feeding them only encourages them to go after things in our community as prey (i.e. pets, kids, trash). It also puts them at risk of being shot or hit by cars. They belong in their natural habitat NOT in a neighborhood.

Coyotes are wild animals. They attack anything they see as potential prey, it has nothing to do with feelings of anger. That baby was nothing more than a potential meal to the coyote. Thus, when such things happen, these animals are shot for the protection of the community. If you truly love these animals, you would not feed them and allow them to live naturally in the wild. Interacting with them puts your community and their lives at risk.

A single healthy well fed coyote poses no threat to big dogs. Coyotes are smart & always take the path of least resistance. If they can steal pet food, beg, raid trash then they won't risk injury trying to kill anything that can defend it's self. I have known several coyotes personally. They can be very friendly (even when full) and they are very family oriented. A pack of hungry coyotes will use a female in heat to lure male dogs out and then ambush them for dinner. Guys do not let your dog play with a coyote. I know most people are smart but some don't realize how cunning and bastardized coyotes are. There have been stories and my friend has experienced it first hand, coyotes will act all friendly with your dog and pretend to play, and then they'll get your dog to follow them around a corner (out of your sight basically) where there will be more coyotes and then they will basically ambush your dog. Do not ever let your dog play with a coyote, my friend had a chihuahua and the coyote did the same thing as I said above, poor little dog had his skull crushed in and back legs all twisted. Coyotes are beautiful but they are also little bastards.

They are more of a threat when they are in packs which probably means that they are hunting, but a coyote all by himself around 2 dogs of his size means that he is outnumbered so he probably won't risk his life trying to attack, but if your dog is smaller then yeah, the dog wouldn't have a chance against a coyote.

Still, they shouldn't be feeding the coyote unless there's someone responsible and/or ready for anything it does. When there's a dog at large without an owner, it goes to the pound. If domestic dogs, which have lost some of their instincts, will still attack strangers, wild dogs will do this too. It needs to either adopted by one who knows how to handle it properly, or it must be removed and prevented from returning. Wild or tame. It can't safely be both.

Even with wolf-dog hybrids raised in captivity, when they see a person trip, they go straight into their "ready" position. It's quite alarming to see it. Now, they wont actually go for the attack (usually) but their brain is telling them to do it, and sometimes they fail to resist. You want a pet wolf? Work at a wildlife center. Become a naturalist.

@@wheelinthesky300 Actually it is similar to how dog domestication started with ancient humans. A group of humans was willing to allow a tame or docile wolf to stay near their group and eat their leftovers or handouts. Also, a fox study in Russia shows it took scientists only 50 years to fully domesticate foxes into dog-like pets. So a millennium is not necessary to domesticate, ancient humans just didn't have the knowledge or time to put in effort for breeding to speed up the process.

Looks very cute and all, but should know from experience that coyote is from the same family as jackals and wolfes. They are intelligent and opportunistic. They normally come with friendly approach and when that behavior becomes exceptable that is when they become a danger. Also not good te make them use to human interaction, cause they are put in harms way. They are wild animals and should be treated as such. Because of human interaction they explore our territories and become use to that. They become much more confident to look for food sources in our back yards. Smaller pets - dogs, cats, birds become their pray. 🤷♂️

I remember someone saying this coyote was raised as a pup in the area, so it is a tame coyote and not a true wild one. If you look at a different video by the uploader, the same coyote plays with the neighborhood dogs: /watch?v=ltgcpXs3pAg
