Foraging for wild Oyster mushrooms is done in the Spring and Fall months after some precipitation and a warm spell. They tend to grow on deciduous hard wood trees and big old cotton wood trees. I tend to call them Poplar trees or Black Poplar. They can be found on both standing and fallen wood. The mushrooms are quite easily identifiable and sometimes have a licorice type smell to them. Given that this type of tree is generally found at lower elevation you can find them in park, along streams, rivers and lakes. Generally anywhere big old cotton woods live. But for the most part you have to find them before the slugs do. Good luck searching!
