Alice was a 16 year old who couldn’t get it on with the boys on the scene. So she fell in with a group of (I guess) mothers of her fellow students and slept with them while their husbands were away.

Saw this live in 1980 and it blew the doors off. The synthesizer part actually vibrated the concrete floor of the arena. Such a great rocker thats on permanent playlist I have.

Elton John was on fire in the early years, he and Bernie (who John would not be who he became without) couldn't miss. Most will confirm that Yellow Brick Road was his greatest effort. While creating the album, John mentioned how the ideas were coming fast and furious, a truly inspired time. Top 50 rock album of all time.

The album this song comes from may be Elton John at his best. A double album with not a filler in the bunch. I would have picked a few other songs before this one however.

Elton was unable to sing and play this song in the same 'time" as he got older. He has to slow it down a bit. The only 'authentic" video in the same fast time for this song is from Central Park 1980. (at least the only one I know on youtube)

This is a top-5 track for me, from this album, and that's a hard decision to make. You gotta go through the whole thing man-I'm enjoying your reactions too much! Not that you're gonna do this, but this is one of those albums-(a double album!) that you can listen to front to back, and the sequencing is perfect. Also, in answer to your question, this story, written by Elton's lyricist Bernie Taupin, is on of their first overt forays about gay culture in Soho, Westminster, London, a posh area that had a seedy side in the '70s. It's about a popular teenaged Lesbian prostitute from a prominent family (a double-barrel name in the back of her brain) who ends up dead in a Tube station. It's gripping, great noire-esque stuff from Taupin and the band. Kind of brutal.

Absolute bollocks. Bernie Taupin wrote these lyrics, as he was Elton's lyricist then, and his lyrics most certainly weren't about freakin' Alice Cooper. Did you read that story off a cereal box, and not read the actual lyrics printed on the jacket?
