The reason why 'Wild West Cow Boys' has been forgotten over the years is that this show never quite took off like 'Ninja Turtles' did.
@mightyfilm
4 жыл бұрын
And it's a shame it didn't. Not only was it made by a contemporary of the TMNT creators, but as a series, it took on its own identity and didn't even come across as a TMNT wanna be. Hell, I'd say the show itself is closer to Talespin than TMNT. There was even a comic book crossover between the Turtles and the COWboys sometime in the early '00's. And the characters kinda had a crossover in an episode of TMNT Fast Forward as a virtual reality game. But the animators were also not familiar with the property and had the COWboys attack the Turtles, rather than the villains. Overall, a depressingly overlooked classic. And yet, everyone remembers that awful Street Sharks cartoon.

@@mightyfilm I know right. I don't know why anyone would not give any real love or appreciation for western genre and take cartoons way too seriously by being picky at little things they point out instead of enjoying the show for what it is and not whine or complain about every little thing when it comes to food or clothes, or even riding the horses. Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa was it's own thing, made by the same people who did Ninja Turtles. I can't believe nobody else remembers this great show that had so much potential to keep going and not leave everything else unfinished which is what they also did to Bravestarr, and it's just so unfair what they do to great shows and get away with it, ignoring what fans want so selfishly. I always hate them for that. And I don't know what people see in that awful Street Sharks cartoon or Bike Mice from Mars (no offense to some people).
@mightyfilm

@@Disneyfan82 I'd say the problem with COWBoys was that it was a Saturday Morning Network show, particularly on ABC. If you read the stories about what happened with Reboot and Real Ghostbusters, that doesn't need explanation. The show would have thrived better on syndication afternoons, where they had a little more in terms of what they could get away with, and a higher merchandising push to help fund the series. Though, the fact it blended in with other TMNT-alikes when it was far closer to Talespin didn't help any. I never understood why they needed to have the anthro citizens mutate by a giant asteroid/comet when they could just have easily gotten away with it being the usual unexplained alternate Earth where animals were the dominant species. I wish the show got a revamp or revival of some kind. We got a comic book almost 20 years ago and a botched cameo by the characters in an episode of TMNT Fast Forward.

Cow Boys of Moo Mesa is a really fun game! It is in some ways better than Sunset Riders, but it doesn't stand out as much. I hope you do Konami’s Bucky O’Hare next. As for run and gun I highly suggest Contra Hard Corps “especially the superior Japanese version”, Mega Man The Wily Wars, Titally Rad “aka Magic John”, and perhaps the arcade Mega Man titles. Finally for another Konami title even though unlikely I really really REALLY hope you would cover Penguin Adventure on the MSX, that masterpiece of a game is criminally overlooked by most reviewers, alongside Super Mario Bros and Sonic The Hedgehog this game pretty much shaped my childhood.

Moo Mesa wasn’t a TMNT clone old chap. All those shows had the same common thread of “mutated freaks living among humans” while in Moo Mesa all the characters were anthropomorphic and it was an established norm within the canon. That being said the video game was awesome but never made the connection to Sunset Riders until now.
