Berkshire East’s Wilderness Quad was installed used in 2003 to replace the Exhibition Double (1963 Mueller). This lift was first installed at Berthoud Pass, CO, which at the time was owned by Gary Schulz, owner of Borvig. The quad chair was installed in 1989 along with a triple and double. The quad chair was partly removed in 1992. Berkshire East acquired and installed the lift in 2003. Today, it services Berkshire East’s Wilderness peak, which is mostly intermediate and beginner terrain, with the main run being the wide Exhibition trail.
Being a late Borvig, there are many components from the Italian lift manufacturer Leitner, notably the sheaves and planetary gearbox (which is very rare for a Borvig - it’s one of only four that I know of). The chairs are late model Borvig quad chairs with Borvig fixed grips. The drive terminal is a Borvig bi-pod drive/tension terminal, and the return is a simple fixed return terminal.
Recorded on February 3, 2021.
