Interesting device! I hope the manufacturer will continue to improve their features. Autofocus and stabilization would be the highest on the list I think.

For sure...at the time, I was completely unaware that stargazing is a fairly common use for binoculars, or else I absolutely would have given that a try. It didn't occur to me to point these skyward. :-) Thanks for watching, and say hello to my twin over in the UK! ;-)

Be careful. If you turn the binoculars around, you likely will be able to see the red from the illuminator. Especially at high brightness and close ranges. To an extent, it can be filtered out. Most animals, especially nocturnal ones, can see at least some portion of the IR spectrum. If you look at games camera shots, many of them will be looking at the camera because of the light, so if you plan to go bigfoot hunting, you might scare them away. 😂 The other point, obviously, is that any other night vision device will see your IR illuminator. It's a little too pricey for me, but looks pretty good (except for the lack of stabilization).

how do you filter out the illuminator to make it less noticeable?

That was a super interesting video!! I have been wanting something good to spot wild animals for a while but have not pulled the trigger on anything. That was super good info. Although at minute 12 you could have got arrested for stalking or something, just kidding

Thanks for the content. You can buy a decent set of binoculars for $200 that would perform better than a digital viewfinder, my opinion.

I think you were spot on with your list of short comings, that being said would YOU pay $350 for it? It's one thing to "like" it when it is free, but another if spending hard earned cash.

Short answer would be NO! All these ChiCom digital viewfinder infrared illumination devices are crap. First they are NOT night vision devices they are dependent on an IR illuminator which while humans cannot see most nocturnal animals can see. Finally, the quality images and lag in screen are usually crap.

You can also get a Infrared flashlight to supplement the built in light, if you're looking for more of a diffused floodlight you might just have to have a separate flashlight for that. I would also guess that the reason it doesn't come with a battery is to cut cost. Best deal on AA single use batteries I come across is usually costco. But if you kept a rechargable set, you could charge them off the jackery.

The manual focus is not the best thing obviously but... if you get really good at using it it could be ok.

after a life time of auto focus on all my cameras, i am excited to finaly have manual, but it would be nice if the focus some how was maintained while you zoom in

I think ideally a removable battery pack that can be charged outside of the unit. Pack two packs to swap out for charging if needed. Persoannly though I am not adverse to rechargeable batteries. That focus issue does seem like a mood killer though.
