Thanks. When I made it I’d never made anything like it. I’d only done things like rebuild old cars. I had done a bit of silversmithing to make a few bob. All I had was an old myford lathe so I had to make dividing head and fly cutter, all fixed to the lathe using an old washing machine motor. No internet for help in those days but there were some good books, some from John Wilding. Just go for it! Book in one hand lathe in the other.

@@colinmaceke7474 Some good advice there. I know i am spoiled with the tools and machines i have compared to my grandfather and father. Must just use them more and learn as i go. Books are better than some of the rubbish on the net any how. Please keep up the good work and sharing it.

Unfortunately the fussee is always a compromise. They were used in the days when they lacked the knowledge of today’s spring makers. Having said that, if you haven’t come across ‘Clickspring’ yet, take a look at his method.

Hi Colin, congratulations on the quality of your clock and video. I have made John Wildings English Dial Clock. Had it running for a few months, but I find that it will keep good time over 7 days but during this time it can sometimes be fast and sometimes slow. Do you think this could be due to the profile of the fusee?

I think if it repeats the error exactly the same over several weeks then yes it’s the profile on the fusee. My clock does the same but I want to make another fusee for sake of a few minutes.

Hello Mr MacEke. For the barrel wind-up key, if you'd like I will send you a file that you can print on your 3D printer. Let me know the dimension of the square drive and what you want on the end, for example 1/2 inch hex.

That’s very kind of you. However, the load from this spring is very strong. It’s quite an effort to turn the bespoke brass key and I doubt that a printed one would work. The wings of the key would need extra bracing even if as thick as 8mm.
