Nice work Rob, looks like a great place for wildlife. Do you ever use a monopod? It could be useful for stability, especially when you are trying to focus using the Atomos monitor. How do you rate that 500mm F5.6 PF lens? I have started using those hand warmers when I am out filming/photographing wildlife; essential for the UK climate!
@RobBlight
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don't use a monopod and I don't think it would really suit my shooting style. Stability is pretty much solved in my newer vids. The 500PF is great if you want something very handholdable.

"it fills the frame" "well, fills your crop frame" Wow, lol Please check out peacock hand warmers. They use lighter fluid, so you don't have to throw anything away, and they blow away those disposables. They do run 18 hours and will be hot hot. You use the pullstring bag to control how fast it catalizes the fuel. Don't get fuel on the catalyst. Don't over fill them either or won't run hot. If you get really cold put them over your kidneys. This isn't an ad, but I've tried them all and the peacocks are the best. The zippo one looks cool, but it's a pain. Like I literally can't get it to work half the time. Thank you. Great shots

I keep hearing they are good, but the idea of having a live flame in my pocket... just sounds like a bad idea? Maybe I'll try one next winter. The electric ones are surprisingly good too, but don't last as long. I'm glad you picked up on my cheeky crop sensor joke. Thanks for the comment!
@XtianApi
5 жыл бұрын
@@RobBlight hey, so one very important thing to know for safety is these are not technically burning and definitely not a live flame. The platinum on the element is very similar to the platinum in your catalytic converter in your car. The fumes from the warm fuel hit the catalase and react. This cannot be used to start a fire in any logical sense. I'm not sure if it would even ignite a match head. Once you got your hands on them and familiar with them you would be utterly fine with them I believe. I got really into them and bought a bunch of them including vintage ones. I have a vintage peacock that I don't think he's ever been used and I would happily send you no strings. Just a channel donation. I guess there is a long time to go before winter

Liking your footage and photographs a lot. Just wondering why you wouldn't use a (light) monopod in order to stabilise the footage even better. A little bit of horizontal shakiness could probably be neglected easily, but that vertical unsteadiness is a bit tiring for the eyes, imo. Or should this be well the case and I'm ignoring that you're already doing everything possible?...
@RobBlight
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's a constant problem, especially when adjusting focus our other settings while filming. A monopod would hinder me, and I have my doubts as to how much it would help anyway. I have a few tricks up my sleeve though, so it should improve in future videos.

Beautiful photos and video Rob. Now I’ve noticed in your and Mark Smiths photos with the Nikon D850/200-500 combo seem fantastic! I’m no expert by any means, but the contrast and detail seem better than the D850’s/500 pf. I’d love to have your comments on this because I own none of these. Did you have to do a lot of editing for the 200-500 ? Thanks.
@RobBlight
5 жыл бұрын
It could be differences in editing, lighting, focus, motion blur, distance to subject. Without comparing RAWs shot in similar conditions, it's hard to make a reliable comparison really. From my testing the 500PF is quite a bit sharper and contrastier than the 200-500 though. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Awesome footage, maybe you will make some tutorials about that; I think would be greatly appreciated. One question though: what is the difference between these deer parks and a safari park? Because I see so many photograph the deer in these parks but will be outraged if you call wildlife photography some photos taken in a safari park
@RobBlight
5 жыл бұрын
That's a big one to get into. People will unfortunately see others images getting attention and then try to delegitimise them. And there are different kinds of safari - you have legit safaris on the plains of Africa, you also have safari parks which are more like a zoo. I don't see it as a big problem, as long as people aren't lying about how they got the photos or something (which does happen).

Cool video Rob! I reckon your red deer are getting considerably better nutrition down there compared to here - those antlers are incredible! - they probably weigh more than some Scottish stags on their own 😉 Those hand warmers look interesting - I was up with the mountain hares again this weekend and could really have used some..
@RobBlight
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think the red deer in the royal parks are cross-bred with elk. I agree they look a bit different to the highland ones I've seen. And yes when you're out in the cold for hours, the hand warmers definitely improve the experience!

I don't know why you don't get a rain cover, otherwise you really are risking 7k's worth of gear. I've been a Nikon NPs member for many years so I know from experience if your gear gets water damaged (and it really can) Nikon won't be on your side, the gear is not guaranteed as waterproof. I can't fathom why some people seem to want to get their gear wet, it's almost as if they don't value it. I know it's your choice but I don't want others watching your videos to make the mistake of thinking the gear is waterproof, because it isn't and Nikon don't guarantee it as such and won't honour warranty claims caused by water damage!
@RobBlight
5 жыл бұрын
I don't purposely look for rainy days, but if I get caught out in a shower I do tend to keep the gear out - I'm sure it can stand up to a 20 min shower. I do like shooting in the rain though, so I will get a rain cover at some point. I was looking at the peak design one, but the access to the controls seemed too limited as well as not fully covering the lens. If you can recommend any that would fit the D850+500PF I'm all ears.

The 500pf is a sweet lens. Id like to see it on a z6 for video. The d850 produces exceptional image quality, but for video it's just not very practical. Yes, the video quality was great, but the camera shake and focusing were not very good and for those reasons alone it's not a good choice. Just saying. I also have a d850 and it kills me that this high end gear can't make videos for shit.
@RobBlight
5 жыл бұрын
It's the best DSLR for video, so you could do a lot worse. Z6 turns off IBIS with VR lenses so the stabilisation would be the same. Good video AF doesn't necessarily replace manual focus. But yeah I've never seen anyone testing video on the Z6 + 500PF, I would also like to see that.
