Welcome back to Wildlife Windows Dorset Hobby Falcon Cam for 2024! This is a live wild Hobby nest located in rural Dorest England with a pair of Eurasian Hobby (Falco Subbuteo) incubating three eggs. The hobby is a member of the falcon family roughly the same size as a kestrel and the second smallest falcon in the UK. It arrives here from north west Africa to breed every summer. They are nesting in a man-made nest.
The video opens with Mom Hobby taking a break and we see chick #1 who hatched last evening looking fluffy and egg #2 pipping. She returns to incubate and when she gets up a couple of hours later, we see chick #2 has hatched! Welcome to the world little hobby chicks! Mom returns with a partial bird - she eats it on the side of the nest but does offer the leg to chick #1. The chick was trying to swallow it whole when Mom started to brood again. I hope the chick was able to spit it out underneath her!
The man made nest does not have a lot of wood shavings at the bottom so it looks like Mom has to bend down to feed the chicks unless she brings the food into the nest bowl. Weather forecasts more rain for tomorrow. Thank you for watching!

"This is the 3rd year we have been fortunate to set up this camera and the 4th year that we know hobbies have used this location to nest. The adult male is the same male (he is ringed) but we think the female is a new bird as she doesn’t have the aberrant white feather on her head which has been present in previous years. We still don’t have a full ring number for the male but are fairly certain he was ringed as a chick by us in 2019 approx. 10km away. " Thank you for watching!
