Fascinating performance. Compelling, too. Kempff's studio recordings KV 310 and KV 331 are not devoid of clumsiness here and there. Nothing like that here. Naturally flowing from first to last note. Perfect companion to Horowitz's totally different but equally valid 1947 reading. This is Mozart as a living and breathing music, not some sort of exercise in "historical authenticity". The HIPsters may go and jump off the highest cliff they can find.

Too WAGNERIAN,.... but very close to what I believe was the sound of 19th century Mozart interpretation. Historically and musically, a great piece.

Wich part is Wagnerian? Adagio? The sound is of 1970 quality, unfortunately. You can compare Kempff with Anastasia Vorotnaya, the same sonata. Wilhelm Kempff was representative of the last generation which honoured genius of Great Composers. Now we have too many self assured comentators, who 'know better' and pianists who 'improve' e.g. Mozart and Beethoven.

It is very audible that his speciality was Beethoven. Whichever composer he plays, it sounds like Beethoven🤣🥳🤣🥳

He uses pedal as many as possible in Mozart interpretation. Which stablizes the mood.
