I’ve been stewing and brewing over this for a few months. I am always watching to see what engine options are available for purchase to replace Subaru engines that fail. Price is a big factor for myself and others, so I like to explore the most cost effective possibilities for repairs and engine swaps. What things are possible with a few light modifications?
Will a 2010 Legacy GT engine work as a cost effective long block replacement for a 2004 Baja turbo or early Forester XT, Outback XT, Legacy GT? Since they are less expensive than JDM replacements of the appropriate years, it is appealing to view as a viable option.
Items I initially foresee needing addressed/swapped before launch: exhaust cams from single AVCS original to replacement engine, all wiring, intake manifold, entire exhaust, since BR9 legacy has belly mount turbo setup, and basically everything else except for the bare longblock.
I look forward to your comments. If I get enough comments, I may just try it and report back!
