I do think the real question is not whether ChatGPT will take our jobs, but rather if it will make our labor cheaper. Think about it like this. You said it yourself that ChatGPT can enhance our productivity. But imagine if all software developers' average productivity goes much higher, that means the average expectation will also go much higher. The thing is, demand is always limited, it's never unlimited. You don't find many companies needing hundreds of hyper-productive developers at once. That means the job opportunities will be lower since each company won't need too many software developers anymore. At the end of the day the job market is always about supply and demand. If the supply goes higher because everybody's productivity goes up, and the demand can't keep up at the same pace, your labor will become cheaper, because there will be a lot of people competing for the same spots

I think you're right that AI will improve productivity, but I'm not sure about making labour cheaper. I think it will either replace certain kinds of job that AI _can do_ , or it won't be able to replace other kinds of jobs that AI can't do. I believe "junior" software developers and those who require a lot of guidance and hand-holding will be at risk. Other software developers will have to learn how to work with the AI, at a higher level, to stay relevant. I'm not sure we've reached the demand limit, there are lots of software development jobs. But we might reach it one day!
