I worked in Carlsbad for years while they were building that, the only reason it was approved by the CCC California Coastal Commission is that the desal comes from the cooling water that the energy plant was using. And they spent years tied up in court being sued by environmentalist groups. And to put it in perspective, Huntington Beach aka Surf City USA refused free water for life if they would allow a desal plant, they said they wouldn't want to change the coastal view and shoreline. Good luck convincing those guys they need to entertain anyone elses opinions on putting desal in CA.

The so-called "brine" created as a by-product of desalinization does not harm the ocean. Fantastic amounts of seawater are evaporated from the oceans every day by sunlight, leaving "brine" behind, and the fish don't mind at all.

They just need to pump it further out to sea, much closer to the continental shelf. That's where nuclear powered desalination comes in. You don't need fancy reverse osmosis plants when you already have watercooled reactors doing the job for less.

Saltwater is corrosive, but If a large amount was piped from the ocean to the desert and left to dry, the evaporation would solve more than just Arizona's problem, depending on how well its done. Why fight nature when we could cool off and get water while solving our drought?

The problem is the California Coastal Commission. A few years ago, they denied the plans for a desal plant in Huntington Beach. They claimed that too many fish would die in the intake zone. Unfortunately, the entire Pacific coastline belongs to three of the bluest states in the country. They will always find a reason to deny a desal request.

@@phil20_20 Why not? All we have to do is reduce our water consumption. The river still runs and there’s still plenty of water. The bureau of reclamation just over allocated water rights when they built the reservoir because they happened to be experiencing an abnormally wet 80 year period and they didn’t have the tech to come up with better projections of flow rate. Now the states are beginning to actually use their full water allocations and we’re having issues keeping the reservoirs full. Money can absolutely solve the problem. Now tell me why in wrong. I bet you can’t. I bet you don’t know anything about this.

We should try making artificial mountains and see if the humidity will go to the top of the mountain and turn into snow and if we can make enough snow so that we can make water come as a result of the humidity because desalinization is not going to stop the humidity I can make an artificial Mountain out of expanding foam for 15 million dollars which is the size of Mount Humphrey which is approximately 3 km high, Artificial mountains will store the water and control the temperature because the snow will cool the ground The temperature in tuscon is 37 degrees the temperature at mt Humphrey us is 20 degree Also if we make artificial mountains we can possibly put a tube directly in to water and control then temperature of the ocean add expanding foam is 100% recyclable so even if it didn't work we could just return it to its original form again in addition to this I know more information concerning using artificial mountains to create synthetic environments were plants in a number of different things can be created
