Maybe if he didn't hit him in the first inning, then I suppose Cole would've tried to unintentionally intentional walk Devers. He wasn't gonna risk another cutter from getting away.
@vetoland92
2 күн бұрын
I think the Cole HBP on Devers was unintentionally intentional. He didn't go into the AB thinking he was gonna hit him but he was gonna make sure as hell the cutter wasn't left over the plate, and if he ended up hitting him, so be it.
@Manolin23
2 күн бұрын
No difference in an intentional walk vs pitching around a hitter? Cmon Trevor, you've got to have a better take then that. Pitching around a hitter at least still leaves open the possibility for the hitter to swing at a bad pitch and get themselves out. It happens, Trevor should know that. At the very least it keeps the dignity of the pitcher and his team in tact and doesn't give unearned momentum to the opposite dugout. It's a terrible move and there is a reason it's not done. Bad baseball.
Thank you!! I’m guessing Trevor to defend that bitch ass move by Cole he must be friends with him or soft AF to 💁♂️💯

Red Sox fan chiming in (two-parter) Trev was on target with saying Cora and Bello would look the worst if Bello actually hit Judge. But is it good for baseball to have the Red Sox and Yankees to play-up the fiery moments when it comes to policing the game? Is heartbreaking, timely hitting the only way we want to see rivalries fueled?

As someone with no skin in the game, my take is "it's really not a big deal". This is not a playoff game and it wasn't even that important of an at bat. The Yanks are 3 games up in the division and the Sox are 4 games out of the wildcard. This mental game bullshit doesn't really matter unless Cole and Devers face each other in the playoffs. As long as Cole continues to do his thing, this will be forgotten by the time of his next start.

Cole intentionally walking Devers with nobody on, 1 out, in a game where the Yankees are leading 1-0 in only the 4th inning is the single most pathetic and cowardly thing any athlete has ever done. So every pitcher that walked Barry Bonds was weak minded? Devers has a 1.410 OPS against Cole, he’s seeing Cole better than anyone sees anyone in the league. There are 8 other players he can get out, the approach of making the rest of the team beat you is correct whether you like it or not. Sure it didn’t work but not because of the strategy. Jeter didn’t have that mindset because he hits but I could talk trash about the fact he refused to move to 3B when an actual elite shortstop came to town but forced himself as shortstop even though he’s actually a terrible shortstop. Or maybe I should talk about the fact Ruth quit pitching because he was too lazy to stay in shape so in effect hindered his team because he was an alcoholic? These guys are all great it’s easy to find a reason to talk shit is my point. Dude makes more money than you’ll ever see to throw a baseball, maybe let him do it his way.
