If you have the space for it, I think it'd be cool to "split" the sofa and fill in the empty space with a corner table or something to make it look built-in. I think it would be even better if the sofa went all the way to the wall and there might be a lot of wasted space in the corner because it would be hard to sit in such a deep corner and eat. Just a suggestion :) I don't even know if its possible, but I saw that it came in two parts, so I thought I'd say it. I love the sofa for your space!

Hey Becky, Consider moving the couch to the wall with the fridge but still snug in the corner. Visually, I think it would complete the girth/bulk of the fridge and be a nice place for your eye to land after the viewer is finished checking out your great angled ceiling details. Additionally, it would allow you to put the chair backs to the right inner wall and allow for easier movement around the entire table itself. Bonus would be to keep the u open to the kitchen so whomever is cooking can interact or the party can spill into the other room without people feeling like they are being towered/reached over.

I know you guys have done this a lot, but maybe centering the sofa to the window and building a box for a shelf behind it where extra things like coasters and napkins and things could live on the right side (like a behind the sofa console situation) and building out a small side table on the left side would give it a more built in look, then tambor the built in pieces. Hey Becky, a quick...hack? Tip? Whatever for painting edges without using painter's tape is to use a putty knife! I attempted it because I'm a little too lazy to tape up all the places I'm supposed to, and it works fabulously. You basically place the putty knife against whatever surface you don't want paint on (usually at a 90 degree angle from the surface you're painting), and any paint that would have gotten on the no-paint surface just gets on the knife. 😁 It's great because you can move it along as you paint, you can choose whichever width of putty knife works best for you and your space, and it's reusable between paint jobs!

@@livelongandprospermary8796 yes, I'm aware. However, for people who don't want to make a trip out to buy a product with a single utility, they can go to their basement or shed or wherever they keep their tools and grab a putty knife. It won't be as wide as the purpose-made tool, but you save gas, time, and money with essentially the same effect.

If you have the time, would definitely create a full wooden encasement for the couch (on both sides and maybe even the back if there's room to push it forward) so that it fills out the space completely. okay sorry Becky but I hate the couch, like really hate it. I think it still just looks like a couch you put on a box. The fabric is very worn, I really hope you washed it cuz I cringed every time you touched it! The gap on the left definitely adds to the look of it being just a couch, maybe if you removed the arm rest and extended some sort of built in section it would look more in place. Also I'm just not sure a couch is the right size, I feel like it would be too deep and far from the table? Maybe this one is ok, but for me I need to be right up on the table with back support. On a positive note I LOVE the chairs, they're incredible, I hope you kept the others just in case you ever need the extra seating, and also just cuz I love them and would hate for any to be wasted! You did an excellent job restoring them! I agree that the paint job is great and made the wood paneling look much more chique, thank good you didn't have to restain all that. Since it will be at the dining table, I'd recommend giving the sofa a nice, thorough steam-cleaning 💨 To make the couch look more "built in," you could either A) put a matching stained wood box/end table-bit in the gap on the left, or B) separate the two couch halves and put the built-in table-thing in the triangle of corner space, which would also give people sitting in/near the inner corner more comfortable space to sit without having to sit at the corner of the table or knocking knees with each other.

I would make the right extension much slimmer so that it wouldn't block the flow/ be too hard to get around but you could put plants, a cool lamp, some books etc on the shelf.... if you made the right extension the same height as the couch, you could maybe even figure out a way to put sliding doors so it becomes a kind of sideboard for you to store placemats etc.

I love the couch! I think it’s so fun and I can’t wait to see what kind of table you choose for the space. I personally would add a rug, not loving the tiles but I understand that removing/replacing tiles is $$$ so a rug is a perfect fix! Then big plants and a big mirror or wall art 😊

Cute idea for a nook, but not really liking having to crawl into and around the table to sit and eat. Plus cleaning the couch when food gets dropped, too much work for just sitting down and eating. ❤

Love it! Fits you so well! Agree that the area where the sofa doesn’t go to the wall needs something. However, the sofa is too high now and blocks the window ledge.

I truly hope you saved the other 2 retro fiberglass chairs! A set of 4 could definitely come in handy as you grow into, and change things up, in the house! 2 could live in the dinning room for now, and I'm sure the other 2 could find a place in the downstairs somewhere. Extra seating is always handy, and those pieces are amazing!

I see a huge green palm or tree in that corner Gap. The greenery will give 70's sitcom against the colours of the couch

I'd love to see the little void next to the couch filled with maybe shelves or a mini fridge or something. If you find you need some extra storage you could add some drawers into that under platform. I really love the idea of using a couch for dining seating. And those chairs you were able to refresh are just so fun. Keep following your muse you are creating magic!!!

Looks great Becky! I love that couch it’s a great statement piece there. I really thought you were going to get some angled legs to raise that couch up, but I understand the box to have it as a “built-in”. Also I’m just going to take a stab and guess you’re going with a tulip table for that space. (A goldenrod color on the walls could also make it a little more cozy.)

it REALLY depends on the item! when buying second hand furniture, definitely look into the material and how to clean that specific material before doing anything. It really changes depending on what it is!

Thought you would go for vinyl or leather couch (spill milk on your couch and you'll never get smell out). Total paint back of chairs (orange?)...love the vibe of chairs!❤

I'd love to see the empty space in the corner turned into something like a cabinet with the same wood, I think it'll make it feel even more build in and it can even be useful! Looking amazing so far!

I can’t get enough of you! As a product of the 60’s, the 70’s holds a lot of memories. In design, music and some of the best movies ever made! My only wish, your show was longer! 😬😁

Actual audible gasp at the fabric reveal of the couch, so perfect. Building some depth to the sides of the couch with extra boxing to make that unit fit the whole width of the wall, and then covering that boxing with the same moulding that's on the lower wall in the rest of the room, and the same skirting board, would make it look so perfectly built in! (And also give you some extra plant/decor ledge) Love love love this idea immediate pin for my imaginary house I'll one day own 😅

Those chairs, my grandmother had a whole dinning set with a circular table, it now lives at a cousins house. Best furniture ever. There was also a dining set of those chairs in the RBC museum in Victoria 😂. We’d have breakfast at my grandmothers table and then head down to the museum to see it on display 🤣🤣 Her seat cushions were brown too
