That’s a good running engine.

Just seen your video and you may have already worked it out. Decompressor is on when vertical and don't stop the engine with it as you could jump a pushrod. To shut engine down by pushing the fuel rack back t cut fuel off. You also want to make the missing cooling shroud up or the warn out rings will become non existent. Also worth pulling the rocker cover off when it's ticking over to check it's pumping oil to the head

You got a keen eye 👍 , a friend told me about shutting her down on fuel pump and searching for rest of tin work for around cylinder… be nice find original part but I could make one if not 👍

@@KJHart I have a very early curved mudguard winget that I thought was a good buy, little did I know at the time the top tin work was missing and it had been run hot to many times. New barrel, piston and second hand engine to rob the cowls off and its a nice machine. Check the steering box has oil and not filled with water. I managed to rebuild mine with modern bearings but a rebuild could run 500 quid and would write it off.

@@edd6113 will check steering box oil out I know there’s no play in it, got take pot off this one as head gasket leaks still a good buy only paid 200 for the dumper 👌

@@KJHart if you're going deep enough for the head gasket check the bump clearance while you're in it. Makes such a difference to starting. Check the exhaust guide too as this can be the cause to smokey clouds after sitting idling. Keeping it tidy is they key, people say they are cheap to rebuild but they aren't! Think I was 300quid in barrel, piston, shims and gaskets! Think mines running me just under a grand but they engine is rebuilt so hopefully many more years playing left in it. Watch your clutch too had to replace mine and sure that was getting on for 200quid!

The sound of the petter ph1 brings back memories from my childhood and I ended up driving them when I was kicked out of school at 14 and that sounds like a nice tight engine
