I have my dads little 1953 Farmall cub he bought form a neighbor somewhere around the mid 1950s. I grew up driving the little cub and now I use it to mow about 10 acres of hay and do a little gardening. It has been a great tractor.

New to channel. As a mechanic, I find it easier to get adjustable jets back to their correct position by screwing jet in & counting how many turns. Nice little cub though and seems to run great.

My grandparents have a cub. It was the first tractor I drove. We use to pull a horse drawn plow with it. We used it for years. It's still on the old farm. Both my grandparents are dead now. But it's one of the things I want when my uncle passes on. It's been under cover It's whole life. Last I remember it was in pristine shape. Lots of memories.

First tractor my dad ever bought......Right after the war my dad put his name on a list at the Ford dealership and every time he checked his name was further down the list.... so he went to the IH dealer and wasn't long before he had a Cub.... whole shebang... plow, disk, planter, cultivator, cotton duster......My brother (18 years older) would come home in the morning White from DDT after dusting neighbors Cotton all night....That is about all I can remember of the Cub He passed away in 2002.....

Nice to see some Red with the Green again. About the Cub and it's 9 hp and 9 mph; they were originally designed for a one-horse farm, aimed at the southeast, where the whole place was under 50 acres. Because of this the little guys were never really expected to be roaded more than maybe 1/4 mile or so. They were supposed to be so small that everything could be removed by hand with hand tools and easily fixed by the farmer who now didn't have to feed and pasture his horse so he had more cropland for growth. The tach and Fast Hitch are definitely a bit more rare than the bolt on items but that old Howard Rotovater has to just be the stuff. Need to dig that out and get here going too. Nice video.

Starting in either 56 or 57 they offered 2 versions of the cub, 1 version had the taller muffler above the hood, it was considered a row crop tractor, the other with the lower exhaust was their entry into the lo-boy tractor, this version changed drastically over the years, last winter I made my wife park outside while I restored my grandfather's 51 cub, fun project, it runs well and is very handy, with the price of fuel I've been using it for jobs such as returning empty grain carts to the field and I even raked some hay with it, that didn't work out well because of the fixed draw bar, it drug a lot, your lucky to have all those attachments
@Oliver66FarmBoy

The underslung exhaust had nothing to do with the tractors designation. It became standard on all tractors in 1955 with the regular vertical exhaust offered as optional. The Cub low boy had the final drives turned foreword and shorter knees on the front axle so the entire tractor was lowered almost 12 inches hence the low boy designation. The low boy was built from 1955 until 1968.

Got a little 1960 cub myself with the despeeder and Howard L28 rotovator. I gotta say I’m a little jealous of your little fast hitch mower you’ve got for it. Handy little tractor these cubs are. Mine is the same way as that one. Takes a couple minutes of warming up until you really get it to do much of anything when it’s cold out. Can’t even be a late vs. early thing because mine has an older motor in it out of a power unit. Starts right up every time though.
@Oliver66FarmBoy

It really can’t mow much more than an average height yard. Tractor just doesn’t have the balls to keep it spun up. Gotta be careful using it to cause even with the overrunning clutch it will try to push when you want to stop and cub breaks are kinda trash.

Have you ever heard of the Paquette’s Farmall tractor museum? Its the largest Farmall and international collection in the world, it’s about 30 minutes from my house here in Florida, the owner died and they’re closing at the end of this month. I’ve heard an auction company out of the Midwest is selling off all the inventory. KZitem it, there’s been several videos made of the tractors, it’s very impressive!

That cub sure runs like a sowing machine. I don't think you will see any future electric battery tractors sitting for years and then go out one day and have it running in a few hours. Won't be able to even find a battery to fit it. Lol I have looked at many of the cubs at antique tractor shows but have never got to run one. Growing up we had a Ford 2N and later a Ferguson TO-20.

You can pull a spark plug and put it direct on the coil wire. If you have spark their you know you have 12v (or6v) and the coil is good. Then your problem is pin pointed to the condenser or points/wires.

I have not had to pull the carb on my cub yet. But I have heard it both ways...do you have to reset and adjust the governor linkage when you pull the carb off? I have heard some people say yes when you pull the carb and you have to adjust it and others say not.

@@Oliver66FarmBoy I guess that answers my question. They said something about linkages. Which the amount it moves would, but that also doesn't mean it will change if you remove it. I know it's not the same but when replacing the head gaskets on my Kohler on my Zero turn mower unhooking it's governor screws it up and you have to reset it. But it sounds like the c60 engine you can remove it without changing it's setting.
