dude i freaking love this tool idea the thing i think would make it even better is making interchangeable shaping dies to kind of push it in to the shape you need and you might even use wood blocks to test out die shapes ether way i love this tool thank you
@BeAMetalFabricator

Thanks man! Yeah I actually put a happer on it to try to push out the tucks! But it didn't work as well as I was expecting, but you can totally put other tools on here and use it as a press! I tacked the teeth on this because it was the first try of my idea and I wasn't sure how well it was going to work lol so you just watched me build the prototype basically. But I have the plans on my website if you want to make one beametalfabricator.com/product/metal-forming-tool-lever-machine-tucking-tool-for-sheet-metal-fabrication-diy-gathering-tool/

Just a couple of ideas - first why not make a threaded insert so you can change tools in the hand built press easily instead of having to grind/cut one off and weld the next on, second how about an old wiper motor and linkage set up to operate the handle for the press to make a power hammer. I don't know much about bodywork but machines are always useful!
@BeAMetalFabricator

Yeah your right I want to make the does interchangable but I wanted to make sure my idea worked first. Also I have an idea for a power hammer I will be making a video about it soon! Thanks for watching bro!

Yeah that's definitely an option! I just wanted to try it first, in case it didn't, I didn't go through the trouble of making them interchangable

I like this tool lots of uses . The tuck tool .? I'm wondering what would happen to the tuck if a die was made for this tool that closed over the tuck . Think like thumbnail die . No reason a simple die in the tool wouldn't work .
@BeAMetalFabricator

Yeah that was going to be the next thing I wanted to try with this. I'm not sure if that would work either tho

@@BeAMetalFabricator the hardest part would be stopping the metal sliding forward when being compressed I would think. . If the top die resembled a shrinker die it may be more effective to hold the work in place ??
@BeAMetalFabricator
6 ай бұрын
Yeah it could possibly work! Iv never seen anything do that before. That was the problem I was having with this hammer was it was slipping when trying to strategicly compress the tuck, when I would press it straight down it would almost just flatten back out, not as effective as I was hoping...

What's the white coating on the jaw of your tucking tool?
@BeAMetalFabricator

It's called polymorph. Plastic that's malleable after hearing to like 100 degrees or something

Dont you think it worked better then the tucking tool because tlyou can shink and strech.with the softer rubber. What if you put the hard rubber tire under the center where you had the soft rubber then you could get the best of both worlds

Sensible advice Tubal , back in the 80s I used to work in industrial computer set ups and the cooling fans were huge you were forbidden to wear a tie or anything that could potentially strangle you whilst working on them back then ! works a treat dude never doubted it ! designed by a master craftsman…I would think that could come in handy for a lot of shop jobs ..cool 👍

Hello. I'm thinking that if you make the top die the same as the thumb nail die, like a V, and a flat bottom. One machine makes humps, the other shrinks them away 😀 / Anders
