Hey Jason, love the show and have been a frequent listener of it all the way from Europe for a long time now. I have a mailbag question for you pertaining to your remarks on Kyrie v. Brown. You said you viewed Brown as a better player due to his defense being a lot better. Whilst I agree with you that Brown is a much better defender, don't his shortcomings on offense (playmaking and ballhandling) make him a significantly worse offensive player than Kyrie even though his scoring output is pretty much equal (maybe even a bit better), therefore making them pretty much equal? Also another question: In the Jokic v. Luka debate it is generally assumed Jokic is a better defender (although maybe the general feeling views it a bit more neutral nowadays), but isn't it the case that even if Jokic is a slightly better defender, his defensive weaknesses are more of a detriment to a team defense than Luka's defensive weaknesses, simply because the Center position is such an important part of defense, in rim protection and deterrence? In other words, can an overall bad defensive player still be a less detrimental defender for his team than an average defender if that average defender plays a position in which you can be hid away less?
@kyleharris2307
3 ай бұрын
Just to correct one misnomer, Jaylen's output offensively is actually better than Kyrie's output. Kyrie is viewed as a great scorer (and he is) but Jaylen actually outproduces him in every way. So many analysis, all of them go straight to the individual matchups, like Kyrie attacks depend only on that. Most of the time when Kyrie had been effective during the last three months had been due to be part of a team effect that disarticulate opponent defense through a series of combines multiple attacks with lobs, dribbles, triples done by all and mostly made by Luka and Kyrie secondarely. Afcourse these have to be effective for to work in disarticulating the opponent strategy and making it be erratic ending up making less triples etc. it start with Luka making a triple from long and Kyrie making a simple score with a fade fallow by a dunk by Gafford and a block in the midddle of these actions, unless Celtics avoid these actions totally, and even if they make their triples, like in game 1 and 2 against Minnesota, Mavs didn’t make that many triples the whole game but were able to be close just by making lots of 2 pointers. But Kyrie was able to score in front of strong guarding in many occasions because opponents defence was already having havoc. Mavs did this by team effort on the three series and also during regular season in April and March, it doesn’t mean they’ll be successful vs Celtics, but they still have the means to do it and they will make the effort. Whichever of the two teams that succeed will be the one that better disarticulate the opposing powerfully tactics which have brought them to the finals. No individual matchups analysis will guess that in advance. Comparing tactics would be more interesting than comparing the individual matchups

Lmao 13:37 I'm sorry but you're WRONG. Rudy Gobert is NOT a completely superior defensive player to Al or KP. Rudy camps out in the fucking lane as his gimmick just because he's tall and yet can still be shredded in pick and roll and in switches. Yes that's considering he's improved on his footspeed the last 2 seasons, he's still shit. And he's completely worthless in the perimeter, whereas KP and Horford actually block 3 pointers, defend the midrange and the paint and can actually switch.

So it's comes to how the Mavs gonna guard Boston. With the last series how they guard Minnesota, this will be different how they guard Celtics the last time they meet. If Celtics not gonna heat those 3's they not gonna beat the Mavs. For the Mavs they just have to leave 1 vs 1 and let the Celtics make or miss the 3's.

Comparing Luka to Joker is laughable. Luka is all about PointZ + assists + Rebounds. Stat stuffer. Guess nobody learned from Russell Westbrook MVP Why can't these guys use advanced metrics like DARKO that incorporates D, when they compare him with Tatum? If Luka is so dominant why hasn't he won more? I must have missed the dominant play of Luka in the playoffs last year? AND if he has been surrounded by crap teammates why has his On/Off +/- been so pedestrian for multiple years? Tatum has never missed the playoffs. Ever. Not once even when he started with Kemba, Tristan Thompson & Evan Fournier.
