People love netflix because the shows are for a "young and edge" crowd. That's why a lot of people especially 20's year olds and teenagers watch shows that will never be on tv because of "political correctness". A lot of the traditional entertainment companies just play it safe. Same old shit with new actors and slightly different storylines. Im getting Disney+ only for watching stat wars. Screw everything else. Old content that I have in vhs and digital. My fear is that apple will also cater to the traditional crowd. Netflix takes risks and produces shows for Everybody. Also, what people (americans) constantly forget is that many of the new streaming services, that content is pulled back to, are US-only. The content deals for the rest of the world are mostly separate. So while Netflix might lose some licensed content in the US, that will not happen nearly as much in the rest of the world. And a lot of the strength of Netflix lies in the fact that they are one of the only two world wide subscription streaming services. Also the 'streaming war' will not only have one winner.

Personally, I believe that the streaming industry will go through a more intense competition phase, where subscription prices are driven down, followed by a period of declining profit margins, forcing some premium services to shutdown. Their original content will likely either be bought by other steaming services, or (I think more likely) by a small number of behind the scenes brokers that won't stream content, and that may or may not produce original content, but their primary business will be acquiring and licensing digital content (as well as attempting to contractually prevent client streaming services from producing content themselves). Prices will rise somewhat due to reduced competition, eventually stabilizing at whatever the market will bear.

Netflix is a global juggernaut. Disney Plus is more of a threat to new streaming kids on the block like Apple Plus and other American services. None of the services you mentioned is available outside the US, to the rest of the World. Apple is going nowhere. Disney has very little new content and it’s all Marvel and kiddies stuff. There is so much you are not considering. Netflix is ahead of everything you are saying and more. And besides to say in five years time or in the future things will change is hardly a piece of genius, of course they do. Companies consolidate and buy out or shape up, rarely things stay the same. But Netflix is now too big “globally” to be kicked off its podium that quickly. There is however enough space in the market to expand and let alternatives in, Amazon has a unique offering model so I suspect they will hang around, Apple has it all to do and will struggle to get any sort of footing. Disney Plus has potential, especially in the US, where comics and cartoons are very popular but I haven’t seen anything to suggest getting near to Netflix customer base so soon. You can only watch Cinderella so many times before you are sick of it.
@magic75450

I agree with you, but I still think Disney+ has potential. It needs to find a way to be for adults while also being family-safe, which is tricky, but they have popular IP's like Star Wars and Marvel. Someone finally asked a more intriguing question. Yes Netflix will survive, but what will it look like. One of the factors in its favor is that it is already looking at new models besides binging. By far the biggest challenge at the moment isn't the competitors but the crunch of talent from so many competitors. Actors, directors, showrunners, etc. They can only do so many projects at a time. In time, they will run out of people to produce content. Something similar happened in the 90's with children's programming. The competition got so tight that there were some shows that were just inked animatics. (ex. Hammerman and Ace Ventura) I hope Netflix like HBO leverages its reputation for quality and its global reach. Disney+ isn't going to put on telenovelas or Bollywood musicals anytime soon. If Netflix uses that to pull Disney and WB into its playing field its the best conditions they can hope for.

Second, Netflix offers what Disney won't which is more grownup content. I will not find Highwaymen, Mindhunter, Dolomite or The Irishman on Disney+. I also won't find documentaries like The War or Central Park 5 on Disney+. I am more likely to find that kind of content on HBO which will be a more direct competitor than Disney or Apple.

They don't have to raise their prices. Disney owns it's own content so they don't have to pay for licensing. But, if they do, it will be at a time when when they've eaten into Netfix's market share. Disney can sustain plenty of losses whereas Netflix is on borrowed time (they are already in debt). They had a good run but the competition will kill them. Their only chance is an acquisition.
@kenyattaclay7666
4 жыл бұрын
@@pablogayhart3050 First, they will raise prices. Disney is a publicly traded company and they also have to answer to stockholders and investors and they can only take losses for so long before there's a push to raise prices; the fact that they own the content means nothing. Also, they are producing a lot more original and that isn't going to be cheap. Second as I said, Disney+ is NOT going to be a direct competitor to Netflix because the will not offer the same content. Disney+ is going to put up family friendly content while Netflix is mostly going for adult (not porn) content. Disney+ will NEVER have shows like Narcos, or Mindhunters. Disney+ will NEVER have movies like the Highwaymen, Dolomite or The Irishmen. Disney+ will NEVER have documentaries like The War or Central Park 5. That's NEVER EVER going to happen on Disney. However you will find that on HBO and if anyone is going to eat into Netflix it's going to be HBO Max, not Disney. Lastly it's foolish to say that they had a good run but it's over because Netflix is now partnering with major studios to have get movies two and three weeks after they are at the box office which is the next level of where things are going.

Great video! In my opinion, I think the title should read, "Will the other Streaming Services Survive Netflix?" My question to you is, "What has any of these current streaming services(Hulu) or soon-to-be streaming services(Disney+,Appletv+,HBOMax,Peacock) have done to put a dent into Netflix? 158 million subscribers are not going to drop Netflix to go over to a different streaming service. We are not talking about changing from one cable subscription(AT&T) to go over to another(Comcast). Hundreds of dollars out of the average consumer's pocket is something that has to be taken into consideration when dropping one vendor to goto another vendor. $15 to $20, to a consumer, is not going to make them drop one vendor over another. In fact, it will simply allow for the consumer to try a different vendor while holding on to the sure thing they already have. This notion of people having to drop Netflix because there are other streaming services coming out soon, is baseless. The pressure is on the new streaming services to come out swinging for the fences and, this is the key here, must be CONSISTENT with tons of quality content. Disney, for example, cannot make a mistake on this one. They better hope that the Mandalorian is at least half of what Game of Thrones is. Of course, the average Star Wars fan is going to get Disney+. That's a given. But, Disney needs the casual fan who is not. Disney will have to be producing tons of content for their family friendly consumers. Netflix on the other hand is not restricted to just family friendly consumers. Also, Disney needs to be careful about rushing over to China to try and get into that market for Star Wars. There are a lot of Political Wires they will wind up crossing especially if you have just one of your actors from disney spout at the mouth about any Human Rights issues. That could be a wrap in Disney's investment in trying to tackle the Chinese market in terms of Star Wars. Ask the NBA. Netflix will be fine. I also noticed you did not report how much money Netflix is taking in. You are so quick to pointing out about debts and money that Netflix is spending for content. Ok let's take for instance the $15 billion dollars in money that they are spending for investing in creatives and content in 2019. With just 150 million subscribers at an average of $10 per month per subscriber, that comes out to $1.5 Billion dollars per month in REVENUE. $18 Billion dollars per year in REVENUE. Netflix still profited at $3 Billion dollars for 2019 while grabbing a ton of the greatest creative minds in the industry(Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, Ava Duvernay, Benioff & Weiss, etc.) and purchasing content to add to their arsenal. This same $15 billion dollar investment will produce tons of quality content in terms of tv shows and movies for the next 5 to 10 years. In 2020, Netflix investment spending will produce another ton of quality content for another 5 to 10 years. Netflix is not going anywhere. Again, the title should read, "Will the other Streaming Services Survive Netflix?" Great video. What are your thoughts?

Great Points. The Mandalorian might be a make-or-break for Disney+ for the first 8 months: If the show is amazing, consumers might get Disney+ from launch until Falcon&Winter Soldier arrives, and might even pick the 1-year plan because they know in advance they would stick until the end of 2020 anyway. If the Mandalorian is just good, many consumers might rather wait until Falcon&Winter Soldier arrives. There is barely anything special until then in Disney+.

Yes. Easily. Disney+ is more of a niche service similar to HBO, Showtime, etc. They only plan to spend about 1 billion a year on content for their streaming service vs. the 15+ billion Netflix is spending. I predict it will be business as usual with Netflix holding onto their subscribers as people drop and add the Disney+ service depending on the sparse new content. Similar to how people drop HBO when Game of Thrones goes off the air.

I am pretty sure Netflix will remain on top despite Disney. Netflix's audience is more international today than it was in its early years. They add tons of original international programming that will appeal to international viewers. Netflix, like HBO, has gritty R and NC-17 movies that Disney will not have. Disney's shows have tons of american political pandering that won't appeal to an international audience and to Americans sick of politics in their entertainment. Yes, Netflix has some of that too, but many of their original foreign shows were shows produced locally and Netflix just purchased the rights to them. I think Disney will experience a surge in international markets until they get their fill of back catalog viewings. But eventually, people want to watch what is new in the world of cinema, not just watch old movies all of the time. Amazon Prime Video has that nitch

The only real way to win the streaming wars is content. The services with the most in demand content from consumers will do better. The next factor will be the price/cost of the services. The prices for Disney+, Apple, and Peacock will not stay that low for too long. These are prices just to entice potential subscribers. In the coming years those prices will go up much higher. When the streaming market matures prices will start to look like what cable tv pricing looks like today.

We see that with the anime they're showing. There's also a lot of English language shows such as those from England (ones that BBC America doesn't have) and Australia that the US doesn't see. The only downside I see is that these competitive streaming services will result in more spending for the consumers. I have Disney+ now with the Hulu & ESPN bundle. Though I'm enjoying the Mandalorian, I question whether or not there is actually enough content to justify having the channel. Purchasing a Disney owned movie one-time will still be cheaper than a yearly subscription. I own most of the movies in their vault. If Disney has a year where they have more than 3 epic most own movies, this is the only way I see the service being a better value. Eventually, $15.99(Netflix) + $12.99(Disney/ESPN/Hulu) + $5.99 (CBS) + $9.99(Amazon Prime) = $45 per month. This doesn't include live TV. Add the likes of KZitem TV, that is an additional $50 per month. Not a good deal for us. Hopefully a few of these goes will go under and get rolled into another for a lower cost for us.
