Roger taylor is and was always the only drummer for Queen. He and brian had a band together before Queen called Smile, so they always played together, and even today when they do show with adam lambert as their front man, they are roger and brian on stage.

Great reaction to one of my favorite songs from their early days. This album from the early 70s is when I first began to follow them and I haven't stopped for the last 50+ years. They are so accomplished at this young age... all of them are musical geniuses! They are slaying this song! By the way, Roger Taylor along with Brian May were the founding members of their first band, SMILE which eventually was renamed QUEEN - Freddie had the most to do with that change. Roger has ALWAYS been - and continues to be - the drummer for Queen! My choice for your next song is "White Queen" LIVE at the Odeon Hammersmith, 1975 to hear yet another masterpiece by this band, written by Brian May. Magical!

To my knowledge, none of Queen have any formal music training , classical or otherwise and all of them are self taught. (Freddie did love classical music, especially opera and ballet and he wrote Bohemian Rhapsody). Brian May is an astrophysicist (his dad was upset he become a musician instead of an astronomer, Brian completed his PhD in 2007). Brian and his father built his "red special" guitar which he still plays today because he could not afford a Fender or Gibson. They used household items (the neck came from a fireplace mantle). He designed it intentionally to provide feedback. Freddie got a degree in graphic arts (he designed the logo for Queen). Roger Taylor (the drummer) was a dentistry student who switched to biology. John Deacon (the bassist) was a trained electrical engineer. He built the "Deacy amp" from material he found in a dumpster which he and Brian May used throughout their careers. (Brian still uses it today.) Brian and Roger were in another band called Smile with another singer, Tim Staffell. When Staffel left to join another band called Humpy Bong, Freddie (who had run a used clothing stand with Roger) persuaded Brian and Roger to continue and joined them. About this time, he changed his name from Farrokh Bulsara to Freddie Mercury. (BTW Freddie was born in Zanzibar and sent to school in India. He came to UK with his family when he was 18.) Freddie suggested the name Queen for the band. After trying several bassists unsuccessfully, they hired John Deacon as their bassist, he became the youngest member of the band.

Written Freddie prior to Queen being formed. It worth reminding you that John was only 23 at this point. Brian nor any of the others were trained classically trained. Freddie never had a voice coach, they were all so young I loved them from when they were formed. This is the song that made me a lifelong fan. From the same concert there is Father to son, with very deep lyrics or if you fancy something from the last tour when Freddie was alive try Now I'm here, watch them rock 72,000 people. I don't think while Freddie was alive they ever used inner ears. Also the band commented after they came off stage at Live aid, that they could not hear what they were playing at all,it was only the fact that they had spent the week rehearsing and learning the timing that their performance was so tight you're doing great. Blessings from England xx

I love any and all early Queen in that they are incredibly talented in writing and performing... I believe it was at this time that they perfected their sound, and ultimately their own genre... musical geniuses... Freddie being a Virgo, he was a perfectionist that also expected everyone else around him to be the same... which eventually they did... to the point of almost feeling like family... and legends one and all... Roger Taylor was always their drummer, back when Brian and Roger were in SMILE, their three man band in college with Tim Staffell... when Tim wanted out, Freddie stepped in and changed the name to QUEEN... They went thru three bass players before finding John Deacon... the quiet family man in the bunch... Brian was an only child growing up in England, with Jeff Beck for a neighbor... I don't believe any of them had any classical training except Freddie's piano lessons at an Indian boarding school he was sent to at an early age... If you want to hear more early Queen, I suggest anything off the Queen II album, such as "My Fairy King", "Ogre Battle", "March of the Black Queen" or "White Queen"... all are a taste of Freddie's fantasy stories put to music in a very dramatic style, not to mention Roger's falsetto backing vocals are out of this world. Freddie called Roger his "dog whistle"... React to "In the Lap of the Gods" (NOT the one called revisited, that is a totally different song)... another classic... or to experience a sampling of all their singing, react to "Let Me Live", where all three take turns singing verses of the song, Freddie, then Roger, then Brian... John wasn't much of a singer, although he did sing on "Liar" and a few other songs.... oh, and THANK YOU for enjoying and sharing the Queen rabbit hole with us... you always make my day when I can experience youngsters enjoying Queen's fabulous performances.. blessings.

None of them were clasicly trained, just took an early interest in music and their instruments, they grew up with some of ghe greats SS their idols, so…being so talented, converted that into the artists they became with their massively creative minds and talents. Actually, Brian May has a PHD in Astro Physics, Roger Taylor has a degree in biology, John Deacon in Electronics, and Freddie in Graphic Art. Their first two albums see much more heavy, as a new group, the times being what they were, etc. But they grew quickly as their creativeness drove them to be the unique band they became. There are all genres of music in their catalog. Have you heard White Queen, March of the Black Queen, Killer Queen? In the Lap of the Gods and In The Lap of the Gods (revisited)? Oh, you’ll love those. ^_^
