Sounds to me like you have a solid race plan Chris! Hold on to that 3:30 pacer and if things are feeling tolerable at mile 20, then let it rip! I can't wait for the race vlog! Keep pushing my friend!

Hi Chris, Good luck for Sunday. I think that your plan is a good one, but pull back if you get into any difficulty. It's important that you get around comfortably, without injury. That keeps all future opportunities open throughout the summer. I've had to take few weeks off following an unexpected collapse at home and subsequent 2 week hospital stay, They fixed me up pretty well and I now have a new best friend, my pacemaker! I have to take a few weeks off just to let things heal, then I'll be looking forward to getting back out there. Good thing was that I didn't have a heart attack, just an electrical malfunction in the heart. Did get to fulfill a boyhood dream to ride in an ambulance with all the bells and whistles on. Made the most of the opportunity and wasn't in any danger after the initial 30 minutes everything returned to normal. You'll be in my thoughts on Sunday. Have fun! Cheers! Phil

Hey Chris, I think the 3:30 option is the sensible option, I feel it’s a pace I think you can maintain for the duration as your heart rate shouldn’t spike to much at that pace, I would consider taking an extra gell though so 5 in total, I’m doing Brighton aswell hoping for around 3:10-3:15 , hopefully see you there but good luck anyway

Whatever you do just go conservative. Don’t run off on the 3:30 pacer. 3:30 is only double that recent half and add 10. That’s an ok rule to use if you’ve done the training. It’s going to be a grind. It will be an awesome achievement if you make it in 3:30

The course has completely changed this year and there is more uphill sections in the first ten miles so I would definitely go easy for the first half and see how you feel after 20-25km. If you go easy, you will enjoy the second half a lot more. Got my bib and drop bag on Monday (27th March) lunch time and I have put myself in the 4.30hr-4.35hr Pink Wave just to play it safe. My training has been pants. Started 7 months ago because I was 19st and spent the first five months losing three stone, completing 5km, 10km, 10 miles, Half Marathon and twenty milers. Unfortunately as I have got closer to the big day, niggles and cramps have kicked in and I have played it safe and bought the time on feet down a bit. I just want to get this race done and dusted now. Its been a heavy weight around my shoulders having been deferred for three years. If I can come in 4.30hrs - 5hrs then I will take it, just need to make it as painless as possible (I know its going to hurt late on) and get the medal. In six months time, if I am still 16st then I will start a 16 week training plan like everyone else and enjoy it a lot more . . . . Good luck everyone! May you enjoy the day and have a story to tell !

Good luck Chris, don’t put pressure on yourself I think with marathons you can get all the training right & still just not feel well on the day, or could feel amazingly good, yep 03:30 hour pacer group sounds good, & if ya still feel ok in the last 10k go for it, I believe if you can get a few really easy pace long runs 30k runs 3 -4 weeks out from marathon day, is a big help, yep drink more water in the marathon, even the whole week before the marathon, remember to drink through the day, 👊🏼🌲🏃🏽♂️🍀🌿🍀🥳

I think the 3.30 pace sounds sensible. It's funny, when you were talking about 3.10 I though I'd probably end up running with you as that was about my target too. Then 3 weeks ago I got a hamstring injury and I've only just returned to running this weekend so my new target is likely somewhere around 3.30! I'm going to run according to my HR and slow the pace if 3.30 seems too ambitious. If HR is good I won't try and go faster than 3.30 until much later in the race...

Time goal is certainly within reach! The hard thing will be to constrain yourself when it feels too easy or slow passing half-way point ;-) I would suggest holding back at least until you reach mile 20, and stick with the pacers as long as you can. Fueling ... cramping up at the latter stage of a marathon is almost always due to lack of hydration. So beware of that. And I'd stay away from gels with cafeïne, unless you've tested out this theory of using one at the start. It still has a diuretic effect, so will require more hydration. Increases your risk for runners' tr*** as well! Good luck and above all, have fun!

Staying with the 3:30 pacer seems pretty sensible. Might be tempted to stay with them a little after halfway, maybe 16 miles. If you're still feeling good at 16 split it up to 3 mile chunks and run them progressively. Good luck!

I've never run a marathon so what would I know but given your patchy training over the last couple of months I would think 3:30 would be an excellent result. PLEASE stick with the pacer, I would say to 20 mls which is where I'm told the marathon really starts. No Gopro is a good idea. Have a good one!
