I’ve had a 523. But with the regular wheels. Fun little unit

Oh I have that exact same craftsman snowblower in excellent condition. That track drive is excellent and can climb stairs too. I have the manuals and the crossover murry parts list for belts, friction discs, hubs etc. I may put and impeller kit on it or possibly upgrade the hp engine to an 8 or 13hp predator engine. But the 5hp performs pretty well even in heavy snow. 0:02

If fuel dried out in that carb youll be removing it for a bath in an ultrasonic cleaner. I have a furl fikter and shutoff on mine so i run it dry after every use. Also it runs best on ethanol free gas.

My buddy had one similar,maybe a touch bigger, and if I recall correctly was a great machine,just a little slower than a wheeled unit. I knew you would get her running. If it is always that hard to start just use a shovel

I scored right before last winter I got a beautiful yard machine snowblower at a garage sale one of the sized ones probably around the size of the one you’re working on here though it’s not tracked. It was used one time all the paint was on the scraper blade still, the only thing wrong with it is somehow he busted off the starter and it was hanging loose he wanted 15 bucks for it I offered him five and he took it LOL I drilled out the mounting holes for the starter one size bigger and tapped them and re-bolted the starter on, not that it even needs it to run, I had a brand new snowblower that didn’t even need one new part except for the oversize bolts I had laying around. During that first storm we had this year I ran it up the gravel driveway, this thing was throwing gravel (when I got into some soft spots in the driveway where I didn’t have it packed down good) and snow and never even busted a sheer pin and acted like the gravel wasn’t even going through it! Not one bit of rust on it the only money I actually put into it was for tire chains.

if the speed seems a bit slow, that friction disc wears out and also the rubber hardens. its only 18$ on ebay. you use one of those track drives you wont ever want those ones with the wheels.

I don’t think I have ever had snow blower envy before. That thing is a TANK. Do you Remember the commercials for a toy in the late 80’s early 90’s called the Animal. That’s this thing.

Typically those dipstick tubes have clip near the top that screws into the front of the engine. Must be missing on yours. Some of MTD dproducts with this engine have the shorter dipstick without that long tube but the threaded hole for the clip of the long tube is still there.

Got a question. When are they gonna start making engines that will tolerate ethanol gas ? They should cause that's all that's available in most places
@987redman
3 жыл бұрын
A lot of modern small engines will say they will except up to 10 or 15% ethanol depending on what it is. Older ones can take it but if it sits in the lines without being used it causes issues
@l337pwnage
3 жыл бұрын
Well, a big part would be just changing out the fuel lines. Still, if you can avoid the stuff, I would.
@DougvCarburetor
3 жыл бұрын
Yea bud, I think the real question is "when are they going to figure out how to make ethanol gas last". If it didnt break down and separate out water would wouldn't have half these issues
