Newest tribute: • Happy Birthday William...
My tribute to the odd voiced basso for the Dixie Hummingbirds from 1944-1976 who goes by the name of William Bobo.
William Bobo was the Bass Singer for the Dixie Hummingbirds from 1944 until his death 9 days after his birthday in 1976 from heart problems.
(4/19/1921 to 4/28/1976)
Bobo originally sang 2nd tenor (Bari-tenor) but that all changed one day, when he was walk home from work in very inclement weather, he never made it home. His friends and family searched for hours until they finally found him buried in the snow. His lungs collapsed from being in the cold for so long, Bobo practically froze to death. They rushed him to the nearest hospital and just 2 days later, when he had finally spoken an immediate register change was detected. His voice had plummeted! That accident and the power of god is what gave William Bobo his one of a kind unnatural bass voice.
Bobo's voice was so raspy, airy, gravely, throaty, and canyon deep at times it sounded like a growl/breath.
(Mostly heard in the last minute of the video)
