Novelist and screenwriter William Boyd was born in Ghana to Scottish parents. Former Oxford lecturer and TV critic, his acclaimed debut A Good Man in Africa earned him the Whitbread and Somerset Maugham Awards in 1981. With 13 novels, including Booker Prize nominee An Ice-Cream War (1982) and Costa Book Awards winner Restless (2006), Boyd's diverse portfolio extends to screenplays, theatre, and non-fiction. In his Book Club episode, Boyd showcases a fraction of his vast collection, from the Victorian Thumb Dictionary to modern works by David Szalay and Evie Wyld.
