William Lee, Paris, & Giles... these are three equestrians who would doubtless want their day-to-day talents as horsmen to be rememberd.
This video strives to do just that.
Finalizng my study on Washington's Spurs, I will cover one man in particular who handled the wartime spurs other than Washington himself, William Lee.
"If Washington was the greatest horseman in Virginia, William Lee was the second greatest."
Lee was always by Washington's side. He was an excellent man whose story deserves to be told.
Thank you Preston Keith Hindmarch for your wonderful illustrations
* Note: Due to lost sources, regarding the story of Margaret Thomas and William, because of her illness, whether or not she managed to live on the estate is in speculation. Washington did make serious motions to get her to arrive at Mount Vernon; however, pending further discovery, the Archives lack records of how long she lived there, stating:
“Washington’s correspondence notes that she had been in “ill health,” so she may have passed away before or shortly after arrival.” ~ Jessie MacLeod, Associate Curator, George Washington's Mount Vernon.
