On the 3 speeds I walk both bearings on with brass punch like you started to do. Then make sure the blocking rings aren't stuck using screwdriver to gently push back off gear cone. When tapping in bearings go slow and easy so blocking rings aren't getting crammed. I don't have the thrust yoke tool the book calls for so gentle and slow.

I noticed you have to be really careful with those blocking rings pressing it together. I’d like to read on how the factory recommends doing this rebuild, there’s not a lot of info out there. Thanks!

Great video nice to see the T18 get some love. A heads up on the gear oil, shouldn’t use synthetic just use GL4 80 weight oil.

I just couldn't move my SM465 around much. Just too heavy for me, so I had this done by a trans shop. I rebuilt my d18, but again had the trans shop mount both together along with the Advance Adapter and Saturn OD. But I really enjoyed watching you rebuild. Hope you're right with the snap ring vs spacer on mainshaft. Thanks.

I appreciate it! Looks like and inch thick and the locating ring on the transfer case side is about another .25” sticking out hope this helps!

Loved the video, it's a great teacher for how to rebuild these old beasts. On the subject, I've got a bit a question/puzzle for you and the jeep community at large, I've got a Willy's FJ3 (basically a cj3 or cj5 with a van body instead of regular jeep body) which has a Willy's hurricane 4cyl motor, it's got a strange automatic trans fitted to it, but I'm trying to put on a manual, what's a good trans to put on it that has Synchromesh and is capable of reaching 55mph in 3rd or 4th gear without revving the engine too high? I'm thinking borg warner t19 (not too much modding needed) or borg warner t4 (lots of modding needed) I don't really need a crawler gear as an FJ3 isn't really made for off roading, but it might be nice to have the capability to cut across a median or field if it ever becomes necessary, as far as I know the rear diff doesn't have a very high gear ratio, I think it's the same as what was used in the Willy's panel van or jeepster. So with that wall of text out of the way, any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

T4 or T5 would be my first thought, but I’m wondering if you would be time and money ahead to just use a t90 Dana 18 setup with an overdrive. I know it’s not 4x4 but I bet you could seal up the front output somehow. Adapting things is time consuming and expensive. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching!

Thank you! I've been thinking about a t90 or t89 honestly as long as I don't have to double clutch it when shifting I'll be happy. Are there any overdrives that can be locked so the vehicle can't roll?

Hey great video but when you put the main shaft into the case did you hammer it to get it in? I can’t get mine to go in.

This should adapt pretty much the same to those. Bellhousings are a little different than a 3B or CJ5
