That sounds terribly annoying. I definitely don't have that problem with this one! I like it. I've been back and forth on the shoe but it's grown on me and I think I officially like it. Tried it a few times over the years.

The thing is, when you string low like that, you’re no longer feeling the flex of the frame. You are really feeling the characteristics of the string. I like to string tighter, 52-54ibs because you can more accurately access the feeling the frame gives you without the flex and elasticity of the string. Just what I prefer and believe that’s why you see a lot of pros stringing about 53 to 56lbs.
@ZeroLoveTennis
Жыл бұрын
I would agree. That being said, I I think 48 is a great tension for my string of choice on the EZONE. I could go a touch higher. I figured this shift was almost the same headsize but an 18x20 so why not go a few pounds lower? Next time I'll try 48 or maybe 50. There are a few pros that string way lower and I wonder what they are thinking!
@chuckfriebe843
Жыл бұрын
@@ZeroLoveTennis yeah, when I had the EZone, I strung at 49. Def benefits that racquet. Sick and Mannarino for sure. As a rule though, it’s usually mid to low 50s and Sinner at a whopping 60lbs.

I think my buddy strung for sinner and said it was the most annoying string job he's done possibly ever. I talked to another guy yesterday who owns a string company you might have heard of and he regards the E-Zone to be an extremely tension sensitive racket. Says 48-52 anything else will be awful haha. I'll find the sweetspot with the Shift. Didn't get it right the first time 😅 but still play well with it. Heavy racket and loose strings is an annoying combo!

The Head Graphene Speed Pro Touch had that same string pattern. Squares where the center of the sweet spot is has taller rectangular string spacing. When the racquet is lying on its side, the way it would be when you hit a forehand, it still gets decent topspin, even though it’s an 18x20.
@ZeroLoveTennis

Very much agree. However the spacing is actually tighter on this one for the mains which is why I got interested. Head speed pro a little too open for my taste.

Fun video! Have you measured the Shift swingweight? Finding there's a ton of swing weight variability w/r to these Wilson Shifts. Does it feel heavy after hitting a while? Leaning towards the 315 but worried about the heft.
@ZeroLoveTennis
Жыл бұрын
If worried about heft due to variability I guess the silver lining is you could find one well under spec. But that may not be so easy. I'll do a video about a complaint I have work 18x20s soon haha I need to get this off my chest. I will try to measure SW soon. I have a tool now but it's not set up. Feels mid 330s to me or low 340s. Pretty hefty.

I got 2 of the Wilson Shift 315. They came in very consistent, identical swingweight at 301 unstrung. Which with my usual 1.25 gauge strings came to 333. Definitely feels heavier to swing than I would like. Also feel like a lot do the weight is in the throat/lower hoop area so hard to whip it around. Would love to try an underspec one
@ZimingXie

Just to note, I have a 338 SW blade v8 18x20 that felt faster to swing than my shift 315. I really love how the shift feels and sounds on contact, I can hit well with it too if I’m fresh. But i think a combination of weight distribution/shape just makes it a little too much for competitive play. Trying to get the 300 to lead up now
@ZeroLoveTennis
Жыл бұрын
Wow that's cool! Mine happened to come very close to spec as well but I didn't compare it to another one. It's reassuring that your two happen to be so close. However, I wonder if the quality control is a lot tighter because it's a limited run or a Wilson Labs project racket. Maybe they want genuine feedback on the racket and therefore make the quality control a lot tighter, otherwise too many opinions would vary due to differences such as balance or swing weight and their data pool would be useless.

@@ZeroLoveTennis I was able to get my hands on matching pairs of 315s at 293 unstrung swingweight - excited cause I think that’s perfect! 1.25 poly would add about 30 grams to swingweight you think?

Lol thank you, appreciate it. It's coming together more and more as I keep working on it. It's a lot of just getting the left side of the body to connect with what's going on. The right side has so much figured out naturally just from being a righty doing everything with that hand.

I'm trying the 300g...initially came with luxilon eco power at a loose tension....( sub 50 for sure).....felt baggy and unpredictable, very weird. I restrung with ptp @55lbs and its way, way better. Decent feel and good power. Very manouverable. It feels like a racquet for flat hitters that's been bastardised to generate spin, hard to describe. I hit quite flat with a 1hbh. The launch is just bit too inconsistent . Gonna give it two more goes before I dismiss it.
